Hello,

I just recently found this forum and was amazed at the amount of users and information here. This prompted me to sign up and see if I can get some questions answered by the hosting experts.

To start, I own a small software company that makes a simple software product for managing FAQs on your website.

Over the years I have used many different hosting companies to host a number of my websites. Most (or many) of these hosting companies bundle 3rd party software products into the hosting plan, allowing their users/customers additional functionality. Recently I have seen 3rd party software to create RSS feeds, manage articles, create a photo gallery, email marketing tools, form builders, etc, etc.

I'm wondering how the hosting companies go about deciding what software to bundle into the plans they offer? What would you recommend I do to promote my software to the hosting companies? I feel strongly that our product would be a good fit for this type of use. Also, what type of licensing is used in this type of arrangement?

Thanks in advance.

I feel the most important thing would be to blending the software with the control panel.

Like fantastico or rvsitebuilder your software must me installed/accessed from the control panel (plesk/cpanel etc).

Most hosts should be interested in server-wide licence which allows any number of installations within the server.

Dead on. You can always contact them and show your stuff.

Thanks for your reply.

What control panels would you recommend I start with? I've never had to deal with a control panel so I'm not up on which ones are most commonly used. You mentioned plesk and cpanel...these are the most common?

Also, has anyone integrated their software into a control panel before? I'd imagine that I would start with their websites for instructions... however if there are any additional resources, can you make some recommendations?

I appreciate your help and thank you in advance.

I suspect Fantastico of cPanel is most used.

I would go with looking at integration into fantastico and/or Installatron.
