I want to provide a very simple form of web hosting to my clients. It will be ip-less and they will not need to have any control over their accounts. I plan to gather their information through forms on my site, automatically create their web pages and their directory, and automatically point their virtual domain to that directory.

I would prefer not to have to be involved with day-to-day management of the servers I choose to use (Windows 2000 or NT, SQL 7 or higher).

My main concern right now is finding the hosting option that fits my needs. I don't think I would co-locate a server yet, because that would be overkill. Maybe I should opt for a dedicated server, or a shared server. Or could I actually get away with just a regular hosting plan of some sort?

So, I'm looking for your input on what option you think might be best for this type of venture. Also, if you see any problems or concerns with my plan, please feel free to speak up.

I'm somewhat inexperienced when it comes to the hardware and administration side of things. I'm much more familiar with web app development. So if my ideas have gone astray, please let me know.

Thanks!

Jay

I'd recommend becoming a reseller instead, especially if you don't have many accounts yet. It will give you control over your clients accounts with the backing of someone who can help if you get in over your head. I'm about to take the reselling step and hopefully move to a dedicated server within a year. Most hosting companies that offer reseller accounts can help you with starting a dedicated server also. Biggest advice, find someone willingly to comunicate with you after the sale.

If you look at donhost`s reseller oppurtunity I think this is a sort of account that will fit you perfectly. Maybe it`s not windows though.
