I just don't understand how large coperations like Worldcom fail and have so much dept. I mean don't they have good accounting firms? ( I guess not as I believe WorldCom has arthur anderson )

actually large companys are more prone to fail. Large companys run off of investments, small company tend to run off of profit.

... and they had not the cheapest prices for the bandwidth!

Yup, this was definately to be expected following what we all saw a few weeks ago...

Another one bites the dust.

I can only hope that if they decide to part this company out in the future that they leave UUnet fully intact. It would be a damn shame if they sell UUnet in pieces as well.

Time for level3 to buy up some of uunets markets to gain a larger customer base.

I just don't see UUNet customers jumping ship yet.

They dont have to jump if uunet goes up for grabs.

I think they'll dump MCI before they dump UUNet, personally. UUNet is the future of the company, long distance carriers are already seeing revenues being lost to cell phone providers and e-mail, and once VoIP becomes viable, UUNet will be even more in demand.

There's talk that Verizon is negotiating to buy wolrdcom on the cheap, though it probably wouldn't happen until all the liablities have been determined. There's talk that there is another billion in unreported losses still on the books.

That certainly would make things interesting... but I'm not so sure if I were a regulator that I would let that deal go through. Think back to the BellAtlantic/GTE deal - they didn't let them keep Genuity then, why would they let them keep UUNet now?

I think MCI/UUNet/WCOM will pull out of this fine. It will be interesting to see what happens!

I'll have to second that! :agree:
WorldCom just needs this time to reorganise itself and get back up and running, afterall they still offer great quality bandwidth. ;)

I think it'll take a miracle to save WorldCom.

I dont think so....it would be absolutely *impossible* for them to totally disappear.....forget KPN's mess....worldcom going totally under would cripple the world!!! So it aint gonna happen.....
