Hello everyone, for the past two years I have had a small web host company giving me a reseller plan so I had access to the whm (web host manager) and I could add on any domains I wished and I had complete control over as many sites as I needed to. I mostly do web design so this works out, I design a site and host it for my clients (sometimes I just provide hosting).

Well my last host was pretty good but there was occasional down time and its pretty expensive. My last 6 month payment period just came to an end so I thought maybe I would shop around. I found a bunch of sites with 300gb storage and 3k gb bandwidth but this seems to good to be true. Could people please suggest some sites that
1) have great customer support
2) provide me a good amount of space and bandwidth for a good price (doesnt have to be the cheapest)
3) lets me add domains as I create them
4) have complete control over my sites under a master control panel
5) I also prefer sites that let me use whm and cpanel b/c I am used to them but this is not a must.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

If you can put your requirements in terms of bandwidth, disk space and number of domains to be hosted under reseller plan ... you will find excellent suggestions according to your need

Good morning BigKahuna,

I noted your reference to sites with 300+gigs of storage and terabytes of bandwidth. I would highly, highly recommend steering far clear of them. In return for the additional resources they're giving you, generally 'support' is non-existent.

Whether the lack of support is due to the companies' size or their resources, who knows but it's a frequent enough occurrence to just recommend avoiding them altogether.

1. I'm curious as to what sort of monthly budget do you have available to allocate to hosting?
2. How much space & bandwidth are you really using right now?

Well generally anything around 10-15gb of space seems like a good amount to have. Ideally I would like a host where I could start off with something like 5gb and have the option to upgrade when I get more clients.

I dont really use much at all right now maybe around 1-2gb of space and not much bandwidth, but when I add clients I would like to have the availability or option to upgrade. My budget is between $10-25 a month.

yes, I was looking at hostgator's reseller plans, anyone have any experience with them? Are there other options like hostgator?

With that budget you shouldn't look for anything over 5-7 GB of space, otherwise, you're entering in a dangerous territory. Also, how much bandwidth are you looking for? keep your expectations in a reasonable marging, because you don't want to be hosted on a server where other 1000's accounts are hosted in order of allow to the host to gain money.

Bandwidth is not of a great concern. My clients do not get allot of traffic. Well I am willing to pay $25 a month for a good hosting service. I have looked around and hostgator looks like my best bet but I really want to have some options to shop around for. Thanks again!

Given your limited needs, may be it's not a bad idea to contact Hostgator's sales department and ask about their special reseller hosting package ($15 I think it was the price). When judging your requirements, keep in mind that Hostgator has overselling disabled on its reseller hosting packages (for example if you get a 10GB package, you can only create 10 end user accounts of 1GB, or 100 accounts of 100MB etc.; you get the idea).

Hmm thats a good point. I just found a site, www.site5.com and it looks like their 8gb plan would be perfect for me especially because i have the option to upgrade, it has cpanel, clientexec, and I can add as many domains as I want. But the 2TB bandwidth seems a little weird. Does anyone know about this host?

There have been quite a few (mixed) reviews of Site5 lately, so if you do a search for Site5, you'll be able to pull up a few reviews and see opinions from a few of Site5's customers.

Often times many individuals who enter the reseller market overestimate how much disk space or bandwidth they'll be needing and purchase much larger plans (usually at lower rates, sacrificing other elements of service) than what's really needed. It looks like you're heading in the right direction by getting a "smaller" plan and upgrade as the demand is seen.

The 2TB is simply gross overselling. I don't personally agree with such extreme levels of overselling as it is really pushing it. You will have people that take the 2TB literally (and rightly so) and push it to that limit. Whether they succeed or not is something else, however if they do - it's going to cause some heavy stress on that server.

Keep your requirements realistic and try not to fall for the common overselling marketing gimmick which can ultimately hurt the customer..

Good luck with your search :)

I'd suggest that you take a look at ResellerZoom.com

They have overselling enabled so you won't encounter the problem that ldcdc mentioned.

They are cPanel/WHM based with which you are familiar.

They also provide end-user support i think and also Billing Software Clientexec/WHMCS.

I've been looking around for a reseller provider myself. I noticed that Rameen, from InnoHosting gave some sound advice. Personally, I'd recommend InnoHosting. For a couple of weeks or so I have been looking at InnoHosting asking numerous reseller questions. So far Rameen has responded in a very timely manor to my questions.

On of the pluses I like about InnoHosting is the offering of end-user support, therefore, giving you the ability to offer "24/7" online (email) support.
