Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it "ranks", the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

SEO is a very big topic and cannot be covered through this thread....

Getting started, try to explore wikipedia of SEO which is located at...

Heart of SEO is link popularity... more and more links... better position on search engine...

Don't forget to use your <h3> tags and alt= for your <img> tags.

SEO requires months of experience or a few good training sessions at your local college. Best to start trying what people are saying, like META and HTML strict, xml compliant etc... See what works best for you.

Search engine optimization is all about common sense, it's not brain surgery, really. :)

In regards to content optimization it's pretty basic to have a dedicated page about an individual service &/or product that your company provides.

For example if your company offers cpanel web hosting on the cPanel web hosting platform it would be _ideal_ to have a dedicated page on your web site about this. Eg you would create a page like; www.yourdomain.com/cpanel-web-hosting.html which lists information about your cPanel web hosting plans & features. All the search engines would pick up that your page is about cpanel web hosting in reference to your html page file naming, title, meta description tag & content on that cpanel web hosting page. If you were smart you would also harness a few links to that page with the reference or "anchor text" reading cpanel web hosting.

If you go about creating a web site that is search engine friendly (think static url file names, sitemap, good individual dedicated page content) you shall be right to harness the effect of the organic (natural) results on Google & related search engines.

You may need to push certain areas (eg; anchor text) a bit further than other areas, but if you create a quality structured web site and get it out there.. in the long term, you will be A OK, if you have created your website properly to deliver.

Black hat is to show search engines that you have a lot content, when you do not have. You keep the hidden text, You keep a link farm on each page. You keep practising all that activities which may ban you from google.

You may want to hire a SEO specialist/company. But if you're really into DIYing, go to amazon.com. There was 1 or 2 books that I would recommend.
