Hi,

I was wondering if there is any such software that allows me to add IP, RDNS, and it has monitoring function as well as storing notes

I saw this software used inside the datacenter whereby they can list hundreds of IP and show it's status if they are pingable at certain port to monitor the server.

Pls recommend what software are those.

Two that I've used personally:
http://www.nagios.org/
http://www.ipmonitor.com/default.aspx

Nagios has a ton of features, but it's also a bear to configure. ipmonitor is pretty good (originally v8 had a LOT of performance problems when having thousands of monitors, but that's been cleared up within the last 6 months).

Thanks for sharing.

Nagios seems to be web based.

What I actually need is a software that stores my IP & RDNS + Short Notes. Monitoring function is just something extra.

I'm sure someone out there owns and manage hundreds of IPs.. how do you guys keep them organized? Any more ideas?

Zenoss has a comments area you can keep notes in. Or you could add a custom field.

I would look at Viso for making a network map.

I'm not really sure what you're asking. The rDNS entry goes in the nameservers of the people who own the IP address. You will have a PTR record in your dns that will specify the reverse dns value for that IP.

Or are you looking for something just as a record keeping tool for the IP/rDNS entries? Or are you looking for something that will query IP's and make sure rDNS entries are valid?
