Greetings,

Recently saw an ad from a host (name I will not include due to privacy) that had a unique advertising strategy, or well at least my outlook on it.

Offering plans that ranged from 1GB to 10GB reseller packages. Unique thing about it was that you choose any plan you want for $6 USD.

Im assuming there's massive overselling there, but at the same time, not many hosts offer this special.

Just thought it was unique, but is it a good promo idea? Your opinions?

If they are massively overselling then it's not really a good promotion.

1GB for $6.00 seems ok but 10GB for $6.00 is overselling in the extreme, I'd have limited sympathy for anyone who got bitten by a host offering this.

"not many hosts offer this special." ... there'd be a reason for that!

I know its overselling, but the idea imo was unique.

I'd wonder if anyone would be dumb enough though to choose the 1 gig plan :) heheh

I'd wonder if anyone would be dumb enough though to choose the 1 gig planThing is, he who feels that 1GB would be enough for his needs, would quite likely use under 1GB even if he goes for 10GB. So, the cost for the hosting company would be the same. The marketing, while interesting, is, ultimately, not so different from simply selling 10GB for $6.

I agree with Dan, this host is basically selling 10GB for $6. And yes this may be different but in a "doesn't make sense" sort of way.

Also web hosting companies are in the biz of making money right? Advertisement is a good thing, I'm not sure why you would not want to mention the name of a hosting company on a forum dealing with web hosting. Privacy? Again makes no sense.

A person could add more sense to this by changing the way you pay $6 for each plan.

Plan A (small) = $6/month
Blan B (Med) = $36/semi-annually
Blan C (Large) = $72/annually

All 3 plans technically cost $6/month.
