This may be a bit off topic here but hopefully not....

Does anyone know what would cause delays in email delivery ?

By as much as 10 days ? ......this could be a fluke ...but I have checked it and its 10 days...

Sometimes hours or more...not due to time difference either....that I would understand....

Its regarding an email received from Asia.....but should it matter ?

If an email is sent to an ISP at one end....and received ....then what if anything would cause a delay.... server down ?

ISP errors ? overload...? operator errors ??...could it maybe be sent on the person's computer ....but not really and then the date would be recorded as of that day ?? ...then the person maybe would login again and it would be sent...??

I find, generally, that mail delays are caused by smtp queue backlogs. If for some reason the mail server is not sending mail, ANY and ALL mail sent after that gets put in the queue and is not sent until it's been unclogged, a few thousand or so emails in a queue could take a while to be sent, depending on how long it takes the system admin to realize there was a problem.

If its been 10 days or so then I wouldnt worry about getting the email as it is either lost or stuck sitting waiting to be processed. Mail shouldnt take more than a few hours to be processed and if there is an issue like this than there may be an issue with the mail server either on the sender or the receiver server.

The thing is ...I got the email.....but 10 days late....it looks like.....this way it makes the person sending it think you are not going to reply.....which you cant for 10 days because their email isnt delivered.......:bawling:

maybe there should be some AI email scripts written to tell the recipient that this email is late and the reasons.....also automatic notification to the sender that there was a problem and to the ISP that maybe caused the problem.....

....maybe this is too much to hope for......for another few years...
