After several frustraing attempts to order service from HostRocket everything finally went through. Unfortunately I am unable to access the Control Panel as per the instructions they sent me in their 'welcome' message. I have written their tech support folks for help, but they haven't responded yet.

I heard a lot of good things here and elsewhere about HostRocket which is why I finally ordered their service. I hope my experiences so far are an anomaly.

To access the control panel, you use the address http://yourdomainname.com/controlpanel -- no trailing slash. If your domain hasn't propagated yet, use the IP address, with "/controlpanel" at the end. Make sure you don't use a trailing slash.

And may I suggest, in the future, or if this doesn't work, trying HostRocket's own support forum at http://knowledgebase.hostrocket.com/ instead of posting in a public forum not owned by HostRocket.

melia,

Thanks you but I do know how to access the Control Panel. I am following their instructions to the letter. As I stated, the problem is that it refuses to accept my user name and password. And yes, I've used the Hostrocket support forum and sent support tickets. I have yet to get any help from Hostrocket on this problem which is why I'm posting here. (I thought that was my right.) After all isn't this forum supposed to be for sharing experiences with web hosting companies? Are you saying my experience should not be posted on this forum?

As a follow-up to this, I did fianlly get a response from their Tech Support, but it was absolutely no help at all. It was like they didn't even read my question.

Steve

as you will see from my post about hostrocket. If a company well respected on this board gets a negative review they dont like it and ask why your trying to ruin a good companys rep because you had a bad time with them.

HostRocket or any other host is going to have there problems. I had a problem with tera-byte at one point brought it up here and got an email from steve who sorted it out. He didnt come in saying stop bad mouthing us he fixed the problem.

Look, I fully understand that Hostrocket has a good reputation. That's why I signed up with them. And I'm not trying to make them look bad - as I stated, I hope my experience so far is an anomaly.

Having said that though, I am extremely frustrated with the responses I'm getting from their Tech Support. It's like they don't understand the question (perhap my fault?) and their answers are not applicale to the problem I'm having.

On the plus side, I am very ipressed that they respond as quickly as they do. This is a very strong indication of a company that cares about its customers. :) It's just that I appear to be having a communication problem with them that I can't readily resolve.

The hosting side of HostRocket is very good. They always helped me with problems. But they do have small nicks in there service they need to iron out.

Well I've gotten further messages from them that is beginning to clear thinds up. I misunderstood one of their emails to me and put in 'hostrocket.com' as the domain. This apparrently isn't allowed. I tried to explain that I didn't want to transfer any of my domains over to them until I could fully check out their services, but they don't seem to have understood what I'm trying to do.

Nonetheless, Brendan seems to be working on this and I'm confident we'll get it worked out. I would suggest that Hostrocket post better instructions on their 'on-line' ordering page though. This was a very confusing process.

Using AIM to get in contact with HR directly? Just add "rocketsupport" to your buddy list. They've been able to help me out very quickly this way in the past. And yes, for the record, I recommend them. :)

wert,

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't use any on the instant message services.

Ok in all fairness to Hostrocket, the problem was caused by my own confusion. They did nothing wrong. In fact they were very responsive and fixed things quickly. I'm up and running now.

Hi,

Just to clarify what happened, he misunderstood how to get an account without a domain name and put in hostrocket.com for the domain and we had to delete it right away because it was messing up the mail between the server it was on and our server which really hosts hostrocket.com
