Hi

Currently I am on a cPanel/WHM reseller account .. 4 Gb space, ns1 & ns2.mydomain.com, and say abt 30 GB bandwidth per month. Most of the sites (30 of them) are in php/mysql. ssh enalbed.

One Mailman based list with 300+ members, abt 50 messages per day.

At the the current host they donot allow the mailman messages go at once!! instead batch them 150 mesages per hour !! This is our community list and we want immediate delivery of all messages. assamnet .org

so I m looking fr a new host. accommodating & friendly host. technically knowledgeable.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Babul

no one with any sense will let you send out that many emails per hour, if they do they are more than likely gonna get flagged for spammming
Best thing to do when need extraordinary things like need is to get your OWN server

how many messages you plan to send per hour, most hosts will allow you maximum 400-500 messages per hour. If you need more than that then go for VPS:)

I'm confused. You have one mailman list that sends about 50 messages per day, yet the limitation of 150 messages per hour is a problem? Can you explain or am I missing something?

Sounds like your current host shouldn't have an issue with your mailing list if you send out 50 emails a day and your host limits to 150 emails sent an hour?

What is your budget?

However from what you provided so far, there should be some hosts that match what you need in the for sale offers on WHT.

Most shared hosting companies have a limit between 100-300 emails send out per hour. Find one that is more suitable for you, contact each company that meets your requirements and budget asking them what is their hourly limit of emails being sent out.

Best of luck with your search :)

I think you need to look for VPS... looks like reseller plan is not right for you..

If you're going to be sending out that volume of emails every day, you may want to look for a solution developed for sending that volume of mail (not necessarily your main hosting company) that can manage sending out that many emails at one time.

This is something for many companies to do because that volume of mail being sent out at once will raise flags and can cause the upstream provider to become worrisome as they don't want to run at risk of being flagged for sending "spam" (even though your messages are requested by the users and its a valid mailing list) which is why many hosts will limit you to how many emails you can send out per hour and batch them.

It's not to say it can't be done safely, but one option you may want to at least consider is to find a provider that specializes in this area and use them just for sending out your mailings.

A reseller plan is perfect for him.

150/hour for legitimate email fine.

The amount of legitimate email that is sent is not a problem, especially for mailing lists, which we presume all members are wanting to see anyway since they signed up for the list :)

This is incorrect information for a mailing list. 150 emails per hour is not high volume.

Unless I misunderstand the OP I think he is sending 50 e-mails a day to each of the 300 people on the list which by my calculations is 300 x 50 = 15,000 e-mails a day which works out at 625 /hour :)

Either that or it's just the fact that to send 1 e-mail to each person on the list would take 2 hours @ his hosts 150/hour restriction. :)

bggg, would you care to clarify the number of emails sent per hour total by the list?

This was my understanding as well, but because he wants to send them out immediately, he could send out several messages within the same hour to the mailing list, not getting an even distribution of mail per hour.

Well, I have checked the list archive and the monthly no. of messages range from 300 to 700 only!! so to me, its a very very small mailing list. batch sending of messages is ok. but with my current host, lately there have been frequent mail-delays, unreasonable bounces, etc.

And all the sites we host we get no money all all. even though we are looking for the best possible host :)

bggg i say get an acct with at least a virtual dedicated server running your own email server. I have no problems sending email and i am allowed 1000 a day of legitmate email. If its spam of course my reseller company would shut you down.. If you want info pm me. You can get more then 1000 a day if you request it and show its not spam.

ok, one more question: the PhpMyChat .. available for install at cPanel... (at least in my current host) .. is it a resoursce hungry thing??

in their AUP they say it is illegal to run chat system on their server (well, i hv never read their aup) .. but they are making it available in the cPanel to install it !!!! how bizzare.. now they hv disabled the script.. that i used in one of my domain for the last 2 years .. (abt 10 average chat users a day) ...

can someone pls let me know an alternative of this??

Also, I wonder if any cPanel/Whm reseller host.. offer preinstalled ffmpeg, etc.. to run a mini youtube (very low level) site...

Thanks

ok, one more question: the PhpMyChat
Yes, most of the chat scripts does it, that's the reason of why they are banned in the majority of the hosts, although it may be available through fantastico or any other auto-installer
