You don't need a dedicated IP otherwise. You may need dedicated IPs for nameservers I'm not sure. I know you will need 2 but I think other resellers can use those IPs for their nameservers also maybe. klsmith 07-11-2007, 12:09 AM A dedicated IP does serveral things. 1 it lets the Search Engines know you are serious. I hear rumors that some websites on a shred IP can effect your ranking. I'm not sure about that. It may also keep your email flowing. I think the spam lists look at the IP so if one of the sites on your shared hosting is sending out spam and gets black listed on one or more of the spam lists you might find your email blocked. iHubNet 07-11-2007, 01:27 AM If you need to use SSL for e-commerce site to secure transaction, you need dedicated IP. PogiWeb 07-11-2007, 02:13 AM Its just an extra ip address that you can use to setup different things on your account such as a mailing dns. Jedito 07-11-2007, 02:34 AM 1 it lets the Search Engines know you are serious. Really? do I have to wear a tie too? I hear rumors that some websites on a shred IP can effect your ranking. Emails go through the shared IP even if your site have a dedicated IP. To the OP, other than for SSL, nameservers and anonymous FTP, there are not real advantage of have your dedicated IP, it's a valuable resource that should be used carefully. ldcdc 07-11-2007, 09:35 AM That's a myth. Indeed it is. it's a valuable resource that should be used carefully.IPv6 can't come too soon. :) tracphil 07-11-2007, 09:45 AM I get asked a lot about providing IP's for SEO purposes and ever single time I send them to: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/myth-busting-virtual-hosts-vs-dedicated-ip-addresses/ I would love to explain to AtlantaNAP that I let people have IP's for search engine optimization purposes... SSL is the only real need for a dedicated IP in todays hosting environment. Not rDNS and not DNS, not to "mask" who your reselling for... etc. tsj5j 07-11-2007, 09:48 AM I get asked a lot about providing IP's for SEO purposes and ever single time I send them to: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/myth-busting-virtual-hosts-vs-dedicated-ip-addresses/ I would love to explain to AtlantaNAP that I let people have IP's for search engine optimization purposes... Also, email servers bind to the server's main IP, a dedicated IP will not change the IP of the mail server. tracphil 07-11-2007, 09:57 AM Isn't that what I just said? |
