Me and my friend have just successfully setup a web server for hosting our files, but we have come across a few problems regarding MySQL & PHP. The server is hosted via IIS (I know it sucks:D!). Now the first problem is when we tried using vBulletin on the server it seemed to parse the .php file ok but it didn't link the database properly. Could somebody please point somewhere regarding MySQL setup on Windows 2000 using PHP ect ect?

The specs of the software are:
MySQL 3.23.51
PHP 4.2.1
IIS 5.1

This brings me to another issue been bugging me... IIS or Apache? Now i know that Apache is ALOT better that IIS but is quite hard to get working (well for me it is!:D). The reason being there is a lack of decent step-by-step guides out there on the net!
I mean for dummies like myself! :bawling:

Could someone point me out to some good guides regarding Apache on Windows?

Thanks all very much.

Keep in mind that this is someone who soes not use any of the above (sorta)

I recently installed RH7 on an old box, setup SSH and Webmin, then setup apache using it. It was very easy to do... Maybe try this solution.

PS

Running Unix apps on windows just seems wrong, but what do I know..

Serioulsy tho.. it really doesnt take long to get this stuff installed and the stability andf security outweighs the learning curve in my opinion.

Plus you will have the ability to use your windows machine for other stuff.

You hear stories fo 486's running production web sites still, so you dont need the biggest and best system on the market.

withing a few hours you can have a good system running. Redhat seems to be popular, and has a good compatibilty list ...

Think about it Leave the X windows off, install the aforementioned Apps in addition to FTP and you will have a very good webserver in no time...

I got some old boxes (Pent 200's, EDO RAM ect) and i might put on red hat.

I've been usign Apache + MySQL + Perl + Python ( + PostgreSQL) on windows for my test for a long time. Except for PostgreSQL, installation was really easy.

Stability have been greatly improved recently. I had no problems at all for all my applications.

Anyway, to be able to give any solution to your problem, I will need more specific information about the problem. What is the message you are getting?

If you are using vB, you can use the browser to view the source of the error message. You will find the error that MySQL returned in there.
