View Full Version : Any reliable host for helpdesk hosting?

Can any one suggest me a reliable shared hosting to host SupportTrio and TrioLive?

I would need the ability to run corn jobs in every sec. Simple 250 mb space should be enough.

The host needs to accept payment by bank check. I am expecting a $50/60 per year deal.

Any recommendation?

TrioLive as with all "chat" scripts tends to be very resource intensive and isnt suitable for most shared hosting setups - you'll need to significantly increase your budget for an enterprise quality host, or a 512Mb VPS.

Shared hosting is highly unreliable because of too many people on the server.

$50/$60 will not get you the reliability you need.
Think of how much you will LOSE in business/impression if your helpdesk is down.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I might not be needing the site visitor trackings of the live chat. So this might cut-off some resource usage.

How about a 128mb vps? Only for this helpdesk.

I have been with powweb for some time. I dont remember any downtime giving the cause "some customer has been ...."

Though i cant use them since they dont allow running 1 min cronjobs.

why would you run a cron job every second? sounds pretty inefficient.

No it wont. Its the "chat" that is very resource intensive not the odd DB write of visitors :)

A VPS, especialy one so small, is going to be even less likely to cope.

You need an enterprise class shared hosting account, a large VPS (512Mb) or a dedicated server. None of those will come in your budget until you add another "zero" on the end

You should use a helpdesk that supports piping instead. Chatstat is pretty good, i use it myself. But i dont have a lot of traffic with it as most people just use the phone. =P

TrioLive got a free hosted version too. Though using that will wont let me have the helpdesk integrations.

Some issues with the helpdesk makes my case work better with pop setting. I would try a new thing though, if it works i may b using the piping.

But i find the big hosts i have seen like powweb/directi dont have the option for piping too (along with every minute cron).

And the small hosts i have been with had the problem of frequent downtimes.

So i was wondering if you can suggest me any shared hosting with high availability. (with support for piping and 1 min cron).

I am not expecting much of live chat visitors. And if there is a load issue, i can just switch to chatstat or hosted version of triolive.

Live chat is very server intensive as it does a refresh once every second or so.

To give a real world example. We are using Live Help Messenger and on a low load with just one admin signed in its using about 1% of a Dual Core P4 3.0Ghz so I would say either get a hosted solution for your support system or definitely a decent spec VPS/dedicated

And for only helpdesk without the live chat script?

We use an eApps.com $20 VPS for our website, ordering system, helpdesk, forum and live chat as well as a few small websites. They're the kind of provider you need if you want quality and uptime and I would highly recommend them for your needs.

Its a 256 MB VPS... right?

Care to share your live chat traffic and which app you using?

Yes, although we were fine on their 128MB VPS in terms of RAM.

Live chat traffic is fairly low since only I do it and I'm not big on it. I'm the only operator and I've dealt with upto 3 chats at once without a hitch, though i'm pretty confident I could handle more without any problems. I use Live Help Messenger, the same as Rus quoted usage for.

eApps is great when you have a few small websites which need great uptime and service, I've been with them for about a year for personal websites and other projects, moving our company website there more recently.

They use Stardevelop Live Help and WHMCS Support Desk (if I'm not mistaken).

I am thinking of moving with eApps.com $10 vds.

Would be updating later if doesnt work. Or take the live support to any hosted solution.

eApps.com would be a good host for hosting the helpdesk i guess... right?

And thanks a lot for your suggestions :)
