DirectA VS Plesk - Battle for a second place :D

Can't say that all providers but the majority of them and their customers agree that CPanel\WHM is best and most useful control panel ever made. However interesting question is appears, who is on the second place?

DirectAdmin gets my vote as well. It is one of the most secure one out there too.

Directadmin gets my vote also. I prefer direct admin over cpanel, but my clients prefer cpanel over directadmin. Directadmin is light wieght.

I've used cPanel so much that I hate it now. It gets so old and annoying to use! As for second place, I'm going to go with Plesk, as DirectA seems to be outdated.

why do you think DA is outdated?

DirectAdmin and cPanel don't even compare. DirectAdmin is so much more stable, reliable, user-friendly, and secure.

DirectAdmin > Plesk > ... > cPanel

Cheers.

It's more of the name that makes me think it's outdated :)

DirectAdmin is great, but I ultimately switched to Plesk.

I love DirectAdmin, I will continue to recommend it and I will eventually use it again and hopefully resell DA powered hosting.

BUT, Plesk is working much better for me. I am far happier using Plesk. It was a tough choice, but Plesk wins out with me in this particular instance.

My issue with DA is it doesn't seem to be as mature a product as plesk and cpanel. I love the openness of the plugin features, but the AwStats plugins for instance, doesn't work the same in every server setup. On one VPS is worked flawlessly, on my new VPS it didn't work at all. And permissions, etc were setup the same on both VPS, and I wasted a bunch of time checking everything and installing the plugin multiple times. With, Plesk, I just included it into the plan and boom, right there. No muss, no fuss. AwStats inclusion is talked about on the DA forums but the DA guys just seem to want to hear more discussion instead of listening to the consensus and include it.

But the biggest difference is how is the structure. With DA, I can have 10 domains under one user and I can use one FTP to access all the folders, with Plesk - it seems - each domain has its own FTP and settings.

Narrowing it down to Plesk and DA is a great start, either way you have a great CP. Spend time in the demos of both and hit up demodemo.com and look at the flash tutorials. That should give you an idea of which one you want.

DA is probably the easiest to use for normal stuff, its quick and stable. Plesk has a lot of features and navigating around it has a small learning curve.
