Hi,

I have a client who has outgrown his 25GB/month account. I'm trying to find a good, solid host to refer him to... does anyone have any positive experiences to share about a high bandwidth (35GB or so) shared host? Most of his bandwidth usage comes from a popular vBulletin forum.

I would have posted this in the Requests forum, but I'm not so insterested in offers as I am in hearing positive experiences about high bandwidth hosts.

Thanks in advance,

Walter

If his forum uses more than 25 GB per account his forum might be to busy for a standard shared account - just think of the stress if there are 200 sites on the server (often more!), some of them quite active forums.
Your best bet is to search for a host providing either VDS services or servers with no more than 10 busy accounts per server (e.g. http://www.venturesonline.com/hosting/v650.html )

I think if the client is pushing 25GB off a forum most likely he has users uploading and downloading files on the forum a lot. I just cant see a forum running ok on a shared machine that is pushing that much without something like allowing large attachments.

That venturesonline offer is pretty decent. Anything over 25gb/mo should at the very least be on a limited shared server. Our largest packages rarely see more than 8 clients per server simply because any more would have the potential for load spikes causing downtime.

Considered a dedicated server? RackShack (http://www.rackshack.net) might be a good start if they're Linux-saavy and expecting exponential growth.

Semi-Dedicated would be a viable option IMO.

The client isn't ready to handle a dedicated server, which is why I was looking for a shared, or at least managed environment. The Ventures Online V650 account seems like the best option for him that I've seen so far. Thanks for the info!
