View Full Version : Memory requirements for Java servlets/JSP

In my hunt for a programmer the advice has often conflicted. Some say 1 gig of memory min on a dedicated server to run Java effectively, others say I can get by on 128Mb.

After comparing PHP/ASP/Java, Java seems to have come out on top. I run an e-card site sending around 2-4000 cards per day. The development plan is to increase that into tens of thousands.

I know more memory the better, but what could I scrape by with on a dedicated server?

Regards
Jason

Although I am not sure how it is with your case, I think you are right... With memory prices really this cheap nowadays, you would be better afford as much memory as possible (and also as much as your motherboard will take). I will suggest minium 256-512MB. Keep in mind, if you upgrade your memory later, it will still cost you money to pay the technician in the NOC to perform the upgrade, and that's this might well cost more than the memory you are upgrading itself...

Just 0.02 of mine...
