Im considering using it for my billing, but does anyone have any info on it? Cheers cws_mm 07-07-2007, 12:34 AM The only problem with Google Checkout is that you cannot create automatic monthly payments. Otherwise it would probably be the leading payment system. Many people are waiting for this functionality. Mxhub 07-07-2007, 07:31 AM The only problem with Google Checkout is that you cannot create automatic monthly payments. which i think if an important factor for web hosting. You don't want your customer to come back and do manual every month which some find it troublesome, i believe. GPearce 07-08-2007, 03:46 AM It is important, and i hope that they can do something about that :( GPearce 07-08-2007, 04:49 AM Does anyone use anything else but Paypal? Is there something better taht i'm missing? DNDex 07-08-2007, 07:06 PM I've used Google Checkout for almost a year now without issues. I created a shopping cart module that is integrated into a CMS which several clients use. They also have no fees until the end of the year. And are expected to undercut PayPal's fees when the promotion period expires again. Before November of 2006 they were 2% plus $0.20 per transaction. Fixago 07-08-2007, 07:45 PM What's wrong with having a merchant account and payment gateway? I'd take that over PayPal any day of the week, regardless of the business. cws_mm 07-08-2007, 08:17 PM I am completely new to this ... but with your own merchant account don't you have to have SSL certificate and collect the CC numbers on your own website? Then your customers have to be sure your site is secure and your are honest. kennethma 07-08-2007, 10:04 PM I tried using Google Checkout to pay for an item I bought, and when trying to use my credit card, they authorized my card over ten times for some strange reason. Needless to say, I moved back to PayPal. portalplanet 07-08-2007, 10:37 PM Yep you should have to have SSL. Easy to get.. My customers never question my entering their info into the control panel or them entering it. Google checkout: It's good for one time payments I have several clients using this on their e-commerce sites. Most hosting clients just want to give their CC info once and mot worry about it. Then your customers have to be sure your site is secure and your are honest. Yeah, you'll need an SSL certificate. You'll also need to get approved to even get a merchant account. I wonder which sees more fraud, PayPal or people who went through the process of getting a merchant account, payment gateway, and SSL certificate. If you're doing just one-time payments, or little things here and then, then PayPal's fine for you. But if you're trying to run a business, you need a way to process credit cards on your site. Much more professional and reputable. Also good for weeding out the small-timers. VINAX 07-09-2007, 01:45 AM For large payments, Google Checkout is perfect. For small & recurring payments, PayPal is the best. Then your customers have to be sure your site is secure and your are honest. heck, you shouldnt even have a site that allows users to input their information (name, address, etc) without using SSL. Its just irresponsible, lazy, and cheap. Even a self signed ssl certificate is better than nothing. uberhostNET 07-09-2007, 02:35 AM Then your customers have to be sure your site is secure and your are honest. Would you want any less for your customers? RDOSTI 07-09-2007, 02:38 AM Ive earned over 5000$ using Google Checkout (Hosting/Servers/Designing) and never had a glitch. Been happy. They really verify information well and Never had a chargeback :) VINAX 07-09-2007, 03:52 AM Ive earned over 5000$ using Google Checkout (Hosting/Servers/Designing) and never had a glitch. They saved us a lot of money without any problems or chargebacks! :stickout: cws_mm 07-09-2007, 03:57 AM Same here! We have been using GC since May 01st, 07 and have processed over $20,000. You can use a billing solution that is compatible with Google Checkout (such as WHMCS) which would automatically send them an invoice each month. Kintallon 07-09-2007, 07:57 AM Apart from the lack of recurring billing one problem we have is that being based in the UK Google Checkout will only accept orders in UK pounds, unlike Paypal which will accept many different currencies. Currently our pricing is in USD so we can't use Google without changing to GBP or implementing a currency conversion, should they introduce recurring payments then we would probably look more into changing our pricing or use a currency conversion. :) VINAX 07-09-2007, 12:34 PM Customer will go to GC to pay their invoice manually every month? Yep, it's corrected! We hope GC has the recurring payment soon and wish all of our customers changes to pay via GC instead of Paypal, so save a lots fees. :stickout: PEAK-Bobby 07-09-2007, 06:48 PM We have been using GoogleCheckout since August 06' haven't had a single glitch or chargeback issue with gcheckout. We have processed over $15,000 without any fee's. So no need to say we have been very pleased, and will continue to stick with gcheckout in 08 when they add their fee's. Yes we have been sending monthly invoices to our customers to pay using googlecheckout, our customers have option to choose googlecheckout or paypal. Yes paypal is preferred by many of our customers, but some seriously hate paypal and will only use credit card. Googlecheckout makes it so easy. Can't wait for googlecheckouts recurring option to be added. |
