Hey All
I have a Question
I want to develop a website using STOREFRONT.net
And i am used to a LINUX Enviorment where the Software is well free lol
Storefront Requires SQL and ASP
So my Question is are there any SQL products for MS Win 2k that ar decent yet, not going to cost me an arm and leg in licensing fees and what not?
Also is there any decent email server?
Thanks
I cannot afford the software besides the OS itself lol

MySQL is free and pretty decent on W2K. It's does not have the same performance that MS SQL has nor does it have the ability to do transactions (at least last time I heard) but will save you $3000.00 :) You could also find a host to rent you shared SQL space (normal prices are $.50 - $5.00/MB used). MySQL is a better solution than Access as it can handle more connections and data.
Merak Mail is pretty decent and inexpensive (starts at $99.00) http://merakmail.com

Think MySQL does have transactions & more if you use InnoDB instead of MyISAM tables.

Never tried it though, Caveat Installer of Free Software...

StoreFront will not work with linux or MySQL. The only databases it will use are access or MS SQL. StoreFront has a very active newsgroup (news://www.storefront.net/storefront.support.general) . If you have any further questions, there are many knowledgable and helpfull people frequenting the newsgroup that will be more than happy to help out.
Merak is a very good mail server. It has about the best bang for the buck for W2K mail servers. I have been using it with no problem for about a year.

I would consider looking into the StoreFrontNow software, this does not require the purchase of any software, is ASP + MS SQL based, has more features than I have seen in standard shopping carts and the ASP can be modified if need be.
www.storefrontnow.com is their website, and if you want a free demo drop me an e-mail.

But... MS SQL is only availible on Windows platforms. You could connect over LAN from a Linux box, but the database is not really that portable...

does it have the ability to do transactions (at least last time I heard) Good thing I put in the disclaimer :)
Yes, MS SQL is only available on the Windows platform.

Your best bet will be to find a Microsoft Authorized Service Provider who can bundle the MS SQL Server for a monthly fee, instead of having to buy the $4995 per processor license. Also these providers can include the Win2K Server license also in the package.
