Hi guys,
I want to make a subdomain which has several dots e.g. test1.my.domain.com - I managed to make one which my old host but with my new host (they are using cPanel) I cannot do this. Is there any way around it ?

From my experience I do not think that this possible because it goes against protocal.
lol no..
type in the vhost with the dots and the ip to point to, done.

Well first make sure you are allowed to create sub domains in cpanel, then click on sub-domains from the menu, and then create a new sub-domain, in that box try typing in a name with several dots.
I think if you can't make sub domains on your host the sub domains menu icon won't be there, but I'm not familiar with cpanel.
Tell us how it goes.
Edit: I'm assuming a couple of things for instance that your host hosts your DNS, if you are still hosting DNS with your registrar then there might be another procedure to do this.

I tried that, it didn't work. It allows normal type sub-domains but when I want something like site.my.domain.com it wont let me telling me I am not allowed to use 'periods'.
Ah, well there is another solution but it is a bit more complicated.
If you are going to get in the habit of creating subs with several periods, it might be best to host DNS yourself.
It basically involves you changing nameservers to your registrars or some other dns host, then point a-records and optionally mx records to your webhost.
That way you can create sub domains with several periods, BUT, as I remember it is necessary for the webhost to make some adjustments to the vhosts file, manually add in the multiple dot sub themselves.
If I'm wrong in this someone correct me though.
Also, as a final note and alternative solution to the above, you can actually get the multiple period domain added as its own domain in cpanel, if I'm not mistaken. But then you would have to contact your host for details and its not really worth it unless you're doing just one single sub for the duration of the hosting.

If you want test1.my.domain.com, create the subdomain my.domain.com in cPanel, then create another subdomain under the first subdomain.
