Hello,

I provide a paid WiFi service in my local area, and I was looking into running an advert sponsored free access portal, preferrably via a PHProxy setup or similar, though Squid would be even better.

However I require the system to operate on an allow-list bases, for example:

*.google.com
*.msn.com
*.hotmail.com

To allow only specific websites. I'd also want most of the features in glype (http://www.glype.com/downloads/) such as:

- conserve bandwidth by stripping out flash objects, video files, and other high cost, low value items
- work correctly with login sites (e.g. gmail, facebook)

While I'm sure this is all possible, I do not know if there is already a solution available.

My biggest challenge is now finding an advert provider that I can:

- use a single NAT IP for all earnings (not sure how this would work!)
- Ideally work in conjunction with the proxy to automatically allow all advert URLs

Do people feel that I need to possibly sell advertising space (mostly local space) rather than something similar to Google AdSense?

Thanks in advance for all your input.

Hello Sean,

If you are looking for a proxy with the following features have a look at SafeSquid (http://www.safesquid.com/html)

You can also pre-fetch image and links, HTTP and FTP content caching, stripping out objects you do not like.

To download the free version, you need to register on the SafeSquid Forum at http://www.safesquid.com/html and use forums user name & password to download the file from
http://downloads.safesquid.net/free/safesquid-4.1.1-com20-free.tar.gz

Hi,

Might want to consider local advertisers. That would indeed be the best. Why? Its a local WiFi, therefore they have to be local to use it. So Local advertisers would be best.

Make sure when you goto the bussinesses, you have a report that says:

"This is how many people we have that login to our WiFi service (Daily/Weekly/BiWeekly/Monthly)".

Make sure you tell them that all logins to your WiFi service are local users, therefore they would benefit the most.

You can also try Google AdWords.
