This might explain it:

Dear Valued Clients,

Due to the success of übersmith, we have been growing our infrastructure very rapidly. Unfortunately, due to the recent rapid growth, as well as the financial instability of Metromedia Fiber Networks (MFN), we must do a rapid migration of the übersmith service to our Equinix data center. This move will also allow us to add additional robustness and redundancy to the service. This move will be scripted, and we do not anticipate any downtime or interruption of service.

Only one change is required on your part. Due to the necessity of renumbering IP addresses, the IP address of your übersmith instance will change. In an effort to avoid such changes in the future, we require that a DNS CNAME be used for each instance, instead of a DNS A record. This is only necessary if we are not hosting DNS for your instance. For example, if you're using foo.ubersmith.com, no change on your part will be needed. However, if you're using billing.foo.com, where you host DNS for foo.com, this change will be required. If you have already made this change, you may disregard this notice.

Due to the previously mentioned facts, we recommend that you make these DNS changes as soon as possible. If you have any problems, or require any assistance in making these changes, we are happy to help. Contact us at support@voxel.net with any questions or problems. We may be forced to make these changes on short notice, due to the sudden instability and bankruptcy of MFN. In the event that we do, we will do everything possible to ensure no interruption of service.
We thank you for your continued business, and look forward to serving you in the future.

Sincerely,
Andres Salomon
