Hi
Whats the best way to offer proxy hosting as I know they use resources and require dedicated IP's and that there is potential for blacklisting.
What are your opinions?

Proxy hosting can never be offered cheap, best way to do is provide proxy hosting with zero overselling if you are providing it on shared server.
But i still believe proxy hosting is best suited for dedicated solutions :)

I was thinking of offering it on a 10:1 ratio of 10 accounts per high powered server

I thought about running a proxy server, but somone told me that it takes massive resources. More then a game server. I was going to run it on the same server as my hosting biz, but then I realized what I was doing. I was just going to allow ppl to run them on their account, but then I may end up with each account being one.

We thought about it, but decided that if the demand is truly high enough, we'll get a separate server, or a high end VPS strictly for proxies and IRCs. We cant risk our server's performance, its not worth any amount of money.

Am i the only one that find these proxy servers to be highly unethical?

Hey,
It's not profitable.
I've done it, I got to 27 clients very fast, and they maxed out my servers which were also maxed on ram etc.
You'd get 1 client, who thinks, oh look that's ideal, and you'll be hit with like 100 requests a second.

I used to have 4 proxies running at the same time on a vps with 256mb memory and an expanded cpu amount. They all ran fine with tonnes of traffic. Only issue was bandwidth overages. Anyway, they didn't make money so they were stopped :D
However, I expect host proxies could make money if done correctly and well.

They must be 4 small proxies to fit on that spec.
I was on mid $xxx when my proxies were at their peaks, since then they've dropped priority.
I've been in the market with very high end servers, at the lowest cost a month you could find, and you could probably only fit 10-15 proxies on it max.
I use to sell at $10/month for PHP Proxies, and $15/month for CGI Proxies.
Once you get a balance of them both, your servers start to lag, and you'll see the performance drop.
