There is a discussion going on currently at the Kayako forum (http://forums.kayako.com/showthread.php?t=12524) regarding copyrights and branding free licenses. Did you know that a purchased Kayako SupportSuite license has two places that you aren't allowed to change thier wording/copyright? Not only a footer (as is typical of most software), but also the page's title tag, the part that appears on the browser's top bar when you visit a site.
No other software in my experience says that you can't change the wording in the title bar to be more relevant to your site, only this one. Of course, you can pay to have it removed (branding free), but should this be something that's forcefully branded like this? Does it set a bad precedent, or doesn't it matter to you?

No, I believe that is going too far. A footer is fine to maintain manufacture presence but when you bring a title bar into the equation you're messing with SEO and search relevancy.

Kayako is a perfect example of killing seo. Not sure its possible to be changed as i dont use it anymore, but just search google and you will see it.

It's in the EULA that you can't change it without buying a branding free license.

As I said on their official forums, it makes no sense to force this when it is in the footer...

Yes i agree with it and kayako team must review this license.

I agree that is going to far and unnecessary and really annoying.

How much extra do they charge to remove the copyright info?

That really is too far. I am a programmer and when someone pays me full price for software I do not require any sort of branding. I do build the branding in, but the customer is able and allowed to remove it. ( If the customer wants it remoed but doesn't know how I will charge them for doing it, but if they have someone else do it I wont charge them anything for it.

There are some programs such as WHMCS that allow you to remove the branded copyright notice, though it costs you a few dollars more. I think that it's worth it 100% because I don't want people going around thinking there's more than one company! :-)
To thier credit, Kayako has agreed to remove the required copyright in the page title. This was posted by Varun (head guy at Kayako) just moments ago.
Well done!
