Has anyone ever heard of this? Is anyone using it? I'm looking for a low cost secure certificate and Verisign seems a little expensive. Any feedback would be appreicated. I apologize if this is not the right forum to post this. I'm new and still learning.

All it is a web host with a Wildcard certificate. Many hosts will do that for you.

I don't blame you for not wanting to pay Verisign's fees, but you can also get your own digital certificate through:

Thawte: http://www.thawte.com/ ($125)
Equifax: http://www.equifaxsecure.com/ ($99)

They are both compatible with about 99% of the browsers on the market today.

I've looked at the http://www.equifaxsecure.com and I'm not seeing the difference. I understand what the certificate is and what it is doing. The part I don't understand is what makes a wild card certificate worth less. If I understand that to be what you are saying. Is it worth the same?

There is nothing that makes it worth any less, I was pointing out there are other hosts on this board who offer the same service.

A wildcard certificate is just as secure as getting your own certificate. The only difference is one of perception. Some customers may not like the idea of dealing with yourcompany.someotherdomain.com. Of course, it also could be that no one would notice :).

uuallan,

Thank you for the information. You seem to know about this and I see you're an WHT addict. I hope I'm not pressing the issue too far. My next question is, would it be worth it for $49.00 a year. They have a referral program where I can get $40.00 for each person that signs up. I know you are now thinking I'm doing this to try and get people to sign up and I will get the credit. I'm not. I have not signed up yet myself. I was looking for a secure certificate and came across this and as I have been looking around the site I found their referral program. I thought this would be a good thing to have on my web site. Times are tough.

Billy,

Thanks for the kind words, but I am still a baby compared to some of the posters on this board :).

I think I am expressing myself badly. There is nothing inherently wrong with what they are offering, and I imagine that for many people it would be worth the $99. I am simply not one of those people :), regardless of the price.

With that in mind, I don't see that there is a problem with a referral program like that at all, and I am sure it would be of value to may people.

You didn't say what type of site you have, but if you are looking to make more money from it, you may want to check out Commission Junction (http://www.cj.com) to find out other ways to profit from your site.

How does this compare to the free SSL certificates being talked about?

Billy,

I'm not familiar with free SSL certificates, where did you read about those?

globalsign.net <-- They are offering a Free SSL for 1 year

BTW: I think that's more of a Website then giving out SSL Certs.

Their Cert is from Equifax and the website seems to be on a host who has been hughly talked about on here as being a rip off.

I wouldn't use securelook.com at all they are actually Aitcom.net and they are also not listed in the State of North Carolina's Database to even do business under that name. I sure as heck wouldn't trust them to do secure transactions.

do a search for Aitcom.net and look for yourself.
