View Full Version : Reseller vs dedicated servers
vajjas1 06-30-2007, 02:36 PM I have mixed feelings about providing hosting through reselling and having a dedicated servers. I am lost onto why dedicated server is needed when companies like webhostingbuzz (200 GB) and dstinternet (offering unlimited space & bandwidth) for less than $25 a month.
Why do you prefer dedicated servers instead of resellers account, dst internet is it for real unlimited space?
cabron 06-30-2007, 03:24 PM Because there is no unlimited space. These guys are overselling like crazy. Just go and try those offers and see how many accounts you can host until they suspend you. And then explain to your customers why their websites say: "Account Suspended!"
You always get what you pay for!
ForumsAddict 06-30-2007, 06:05 PM Cabron,
Do you even know or had any experience with WebHostingBuzz at all before making those disastrous claims? especially being someone that does unlimited bandwidth on his web hosting plans. Do you have anything else to do today? My god...
Dhana please contact me personally at sm[at]webhostingbuzz.com and I will address your concerns about our business model, if you any that is, which happens to work just fine for us.
cabron 06-30-2007, 07:02 PM No i'm actually speaking from an economical point of view.
Your offer has overselling written all over it. In a shared packaged that would be ok, but as it is for resellers it is a dangerous strategy as it is known that a lot of resellers use up all that they are allowed to.
And i really have doubts that if a reseller really would really use that he won't get suspended.
That's just it...the discrepancies between the normal reseller plans and that plan are just too big.
And what i said is that you were overselling like crazy and i realy don't see what unrealistic claims i made. All you can say here is that: "We can manage it". But not more than that.

I have you back you up with this comment! I agree with you.
BrettB 06-30-2007, 10:21 PM There's quite a big difference between such a large reseller account and a dedicated server. For one, a dedicated server offers much more control over the server (all aspects of it), which also in turn requires more work and management to keep it stable. On the other hand, these large reseller accounts can provide you with a similar amount of disk space and bandwidth as a dedicated server (I won't comment on their overselling or reliability without having experience with them), but they do not offer the control that is available with a dedicated server as well you will be sharing a server with several to many other customers.
Essentially these huge plans offer similar amounts of diskspace and bandwidth as a dedicated server, but they cannot match the control and management levels that can be achieved with a dedicated server.
Fernis 06-30-2007, 10:28 PM With a dedicated server you will have more control and better performance, but they will cost you significantly more.
A reseller account with a good host can be economical and perform well depending on the quality of the host.
For smaller businesses that just have a few low volume sites a reseller account is the way to go. As you grow are the sites become busier you should consider a dedicated server.
lorif 08-16-2007, 03:20 PM My 3 domains have now been down for over a week, with no useful response from their tech support. They seem to be ignoring my request for a transfer authorization code. I wonder if I will get a response when I dispute the charges to my credit card?
Bad hard drive my butt! I could have built them a new server by now!
Steer Clear of this cr@ppy company!!!
Sorry for cross posting, but I dont want this company screwing more people.

I'm sure you won't get response when filing a cc dispute.
Do not file a dispute if you don't have a backup of your sites.
Communication is always recommended :)
iHubNet 08-16-2007, 10:37 PM because we are not actually able to use 200GB from reseller account.. that's we call overselled..
iHubNet-Matt 08-17-2007, 02:25 PM Even though they offer unlimited features, when the real website performance is considered a shared environment may bring some sort of difficulty, if your sites needs more resource usage. There may be restrictions there.

As the above post states, they are overselling. There is no such thing as "unlimited" Even if you were to hit 200GB, that company would stop you from doing so in their TOS. Some companies out there have restrictions on disk usage/bandwidth usage, yet promote unlimited. Kinda silly but thats how it goes.
If you're looking for more power, check out dedicated solutions, especially if you need full root access. Dedi solutions are better for bigger hosts who need more power/space.

Hi,
I agree - otherwise pick realistic plans and do your homework about the host you're thinking of going with. A little common sense wouldn't be bad either ;)
Sam [Vissol] 08-23-2007, 04:15 PM Resellers are a lot cheaper.
If you have the money dedicated servers are the best.
With a dedicated server people don't oversell as much as resellers.
iHubNet 08-24-2007, 05:56 AM also if you over use the resource in reseller plans, they will suspend your account.. not like dedicated server... you rule in dedicated server..lol
Mike in FL 08-25-2007, 05:44 PM These guys are overselling like crazy.... said the genius whose site claims unlimited bandwidth for $9.95/month.

Maybe his unmetered sites are on a 10mbps unmetered line, but true it is quite hypocritical.

They don't answer any form of communications except the telephone which now says sales inquiry only. Tech support is through ticket only and then the ticket is just ignored forever. I finally got sales to put in a ticket for me over the phone, and they promptly ignored that one also.
Can't get access to my hosting account, and they won't transfer my last domain.
Great fun. The sad part is, I could have cared less about the unlimited traffic, I didn't even need it.
