I am not getting my site listed in DMOZ.org - how often did you had to submit your site before it got listed? The technical part of my site is all OK - it's just the listing itself. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I usually submit once every 2 months as well. Dont worry be patient and you will get in. FDrive 07-19-2002, 03:22 PM One site of mine took one submission and was listed within a month, another of mine took 4 submissions and was listed in 6 months. poncho2000 07-19-2002, 05:02 PM Do you get notified when you are included in DMOZ index? Peter Don't think so...:( ntwaddel 07-19-2002, 05:07 PM i never got notified, but it looks like my site is up there, after 3 months :D mwatkins 07-19-2002, 05:35 PM You don't get notified when a submission is accepted. Time frame varies depending on the category and the number of editors assigned to the category (if any). You have to remember its all driven by humans, and its a very big job. Feel free to volunteer. Mike A DMOZ Category Editor mwatkins 07-19-2002, 05:36 PM ps, I'll be taking donations of Mountain Dew, Twinkies and Pizza for faster inclusion. -- I *am* kidding, I don't edit any hosting related categories -- imago-allan 07-19-2002, 07:00 PM Hi! If you feel that it has taken really long or probably was overlooked, try to contact an editor in that category and give him/her the details of your site: title, description, etc. :) Jeremy W. 07-20-2002, 12:29 AM All up to the individual editor. "Average" is now sitting around 6 months, especially for over-populated categories. In fact some editors won't even take more submissions. DMOZ was a great idea, but it's wearing thin this whole "power to the person" thing. GlideTech 07-20-2002, 12:46 AM I used to be an editor for Dmoz. There were times when I forgot to login for weeks, sometimes even 2 months, and when I did log back in there were tons of submissions waiting to be accepted. I closed by account because I realized I wasn't doing a good job, but I quickly learned that all categories were handled this same way. You just have to cross your fingers and hope that the editor for the web hosting category logs in and approves submissions. :D On top of that, you better hope he does't run his own web hosting company, because then you might not be getting in at all :stickout Santoman 07-21-2002, 04:12 PM It's funny, I've tried hard to get into DMOZ, with no luck after several months. The thing is, I was trying to get listed in an area that only had 17 entries (Web hosting in NH)! The area had no editor, and I also signed up to be an editor Twice and was rejected because of my poor choice of sites to list... You'd think with such a need to Editor's they would at least give someone a chance... :( Steve Gem Hexen 07-22-2002, 01:51 AM I'm an editor in NEWS! WHRKit 07-25-2002, 12:57 PM Has anyone the link to hosting and local areas at DMOZ - like the one mentioned for New Hampshire? I can't seem to find it and as I am local only anyway .... and maybe I get a different editor. Thanks! The Fish GlideTech 07-25-2002, 01:31 PM http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/ You may need to browse around in your state to find the best place to list your site. :) WHRKit 07-25-2002, 02:56 PM Thank you very much! :) Rich2k 07-25-2002, 06:44 PM One important point, don't spam the directory... you will be even less likely to get listed. Try to help any editors (don't worry if there is no specific editors listed it will eventually be reviewed by a higher up editor... or perhaps apply for it yourself (remember to declare that you own that site though!)) Help the editors by giving a decent description. The guidelines are public at http://dmoz.org/help/submit.html WHRKit 07-26-2002, 01:00 PM I hate SPAM and and are very conservative with these things. So, no exception for DMOZ.org :-) (unless they will never take my site) :D Rich2k 07-26-2002, 04:41 PM Yeah it'll get put on a ban list... so you don't want that :) freakysid 07-26-2002, 11:13 PM read this... http://www.searchengineforums.com/bin/ubbmisc.cgi?action=getannounce&ForumNumber=31&Start=2452277.99&End=2455198&Session= xerocity.com 07-28-2002, 11:39 AM Submit once every 3-4 weeks and after 3 months if you are still not listed contact a dmoz editor in the category selected or if none available in that category, the editer immediately below the category you have selected. It has worked for myself and many other people that I have told this to. Usually you get listed the next day once you have done this. Also, remember to be nice, they are people and will judge your tone and base you acceptance on that. Included below is a copy of an email that I sent that got me listed the next day. ============================================== Dear (editor username), Hello, I have been resubmitting our companies website to DMOZ for a while and have yet to be added to the directory. I was curious if there is either something wrong with our website or our submission. The category I have been trying to get included in is "(full category)". Our URL is "(full url)". Our Title is "(title)". Our website description is "(site description)" As far as I'm able to tell we haven't violated any of DMOZ's terms. If we have violated any of DMOZ's terms please let us know so we can correct it. Thank you, (name), (position) (url) ============================================== I am not an editor for dmoz. But it has worked for me. |
