View Full Version : Logo Design Contest - we are looking for high quality logos...

Hi All,

It is my pleasure to announce our logo design contest.

We have been running this contest for some time on our forums at http://forum.voxtreme.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1996 , but we thought we should open it up to non-clients too.

We are looking for a stylish, modern logo that will go well on the attached background, that will be used on our new website.
The greyed out voxtreme letters on the background won't be there once the logo is chosen, they are just there to prevent anyone from stealing our header.

The logo must also be suitable for use on 468:60 ad banners, and preferably suitable for things such as letterheads too.

The winner will receive a Standard Reseller Plan free for one year, worth $250. Details on this plan can be found at http://voxtreme.com/resellerplans.htm

We are considering offering a cash alternative too

Please post all entries for public viewing.

Could you perhaps post a separate page that displays all the participant's logo designs?

This would be recommendable.

Why is your logo so big? It looks good if it was smaller and more in color!

Thought I'd submit a design. On the off-chance I do win, I'll be on vacation (honeymoon!) next week, so I won't be reachable. Just PM me or something and I'll be back next weekend.

Thanks for your entries so far. Some of the designs have been good, but it is imperative that they fit well on the background, so white text is preferred. Just use a plain blue background to represent the header image we already have...

Well I made the banner on 468x60:

http://www.envix.net/voxtreme.jpg

But I found that it would still be a little big for your current layout so I made it half of what is was and put it into your layout, so here is a ss of that:

Tell me what you think or if you want to go in a whole different direction...

Vector logo, can be customized according to requirements!

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Piano and Dave, I like both of your entries. Could you try superimposing them on the background supplied?

Piano, could you try it without the "hosting" text, and just the "Voxtreme" bit? Also, if you could 'liven' up the text a bit, it would be great...

No offence, but some of the logos with just plain text in Arial, or a similar font, are not of the quality we are looking for. We are looking for a highly professional logo. If you think the budget is too low for what we're asking, we can negotiate a higher price, but we _really_ want a professional logo and not a 2 minute job in photoshop.

Piano

Please click here to view it (www.azhardoctor.com/changlee/previews/voxtreme/)

Its clean... its pretty... its easy on the eye... its extremely legible... it has a tendency to make a visitor stare at it for a few seconds too... that was the goal... simplicity and visual impact.

Oh, it is designed to also print nicely on paper (black and white)... distinct shades of black, gray and white.

And its completely vector.

This is not a two-minute job! It took us two hours in fact! How come? One and a half hour of playing around making scratch designs and the remaining half hour perfecting the layout of the logo.

Then another few hours to design a web page header using the image you wished... just in case you liked the idea of using it on your homepage in this style.

I have also emailed you, Matt, via the link on your profile page. It is regarding something you may wish to consider when redesigning your website,

Warm regards ~

Matt,
I'm guessing that in your opinion Microsoft, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Nokia, 3Com and countless other companies have plain boring logos that took three minutes to create in photoshop?

They all have simple logos because they want the consumer to be able to easily recognize their name and their product.

Also, if you wanted a "complex" logo with 3d crap everywhere why didn't you say that in the beginning?

You may want to rethink what you said about "simple logos."

I think he can do what you did by himself and save the money... ;)

I don't think those are "plain and boring"...

Plus, i'm sure Microsoft has some kind of logic behind all of their logos and can explain why their artists did such and such. Why do you have those 3 boxes on your logo? :stickout

BrianF
07-20-2002, 10:52 AM
Obviously I was just messing around in photoshop, like I said in my posts, but I thought that of the few things I came up with last night while I had some free time he might see something he liked and that I could develope further.

Those are products of Microsoft, not their actual logo.

You said it, Brian! There are a few more reasons why so many FORTUNE 500 companies have such simple logos... but if we discuss that here it would be bumping the thread!

I really like most of your designs, Brian! Like a few others in WHT you have also got what it takes when it comes to creating pleasing designs.

None in particular, there have been some good designs, but none have integrated that well with our header.

I think for the time being, I will have to say the contest is closed until we can revise our requirements to a greater extent.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a logo so far, and my apologies for not being clear enough in my original post.

Hi Divine!

Yup! Was extremely serious! That was no joke!

I participated in this contest because it was an offer from a reputed host like Voxtreme. I make it a point never to participate in contests held by new startup companies because most of the time a lot of these guys don't know what they are doing and where they are going!

Matt,
I do realize that I only put 3 minutes or so into the last few that I entered. But because you gave really NO information at all about what you wanted, I was taking shots in the dark guessing what you would like. Personally the first logo I made with the large V is my favorite and I think it would work well for you.

Chang, thanks for the compliments.

voxtreme-matt...

did you receive my email?

also, there are some designers here who will be able to satisfy your needs if you can explain a bit better what type of 'special logo effect' interests you more.

my humble opinion is... its always best to go for a simple clean no=nonsense logo. if you are interested in knowing why i suggest this, please feel free to ask. i will give you more than 10 very valid reasons why top notch advertising agencies purposely create clean and simple logos for their multinational clients.

That brings me to another example of a simple and sweet logo... that of MCHost. In my personal opinion, I would rate the MCHost logo as being a top notch logo... it ranks extremely high on my list. If anyone is curious why I opine this, please feel free to email me and I will give you my reasons.

Here's a lil different colour contrast according to your website, just to give you an idea about the logo is that the rectangle design turning into triangle gives a touch of something XTREME, while the rest you can judge yourself!
