Hello all, in everyones experience, what is the best open source real estate software available?

I would like to start up a website selling and renting property as an agent for a real estate firm.

Many thanks in advance!

Dave,

Open Realty seems to be the more popular of ones. In my opinion though starting one using that script would be a mistake: Find something a bit more thorough.

Then again, it's open source so you're free to modify it :)

Open Realty is good but has a doggy design and hard work must be done to get it right..
for some extra money you could get a ready made real estate script... just try google and you'll get there

If you are just adding your own listings then a customizable (able to set fields) listings script should work. If you want to load data from an MLS (Multiple Listing Services) they use what the call an IDX format which just basically means that they will have compressed text files on an ftp site for you to download. Formats change drastically in in the same area. For example I used to run GatewayRealty.com which grabbed data from 4 MLS each had a different naming convention, different delimiters, and different compression methods. They also tend to not inform you when they change their data formats, causing you to have to work backwards once an issue is identified.

If you want real estate listings then open-realty is for you. Check out his site I did just recently: http://www.pepperandcrandall.com

Server not found.
Firefox can't find the server at www.pepperandcrandall.com.

That aside, if we're all being honest, openrealty is really a piece of crap. It's primary purpose in life is to get more buyers for the IDX module the developers offer. But if you don't have any other choice, and your standards are low enough.... why not ;)
