View Full Version : Host Questions [Got any dirt on any of these providers?]
undoonga 07-19-2002, 12:55 AM I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone had any information [dirt] on any of these hosts or could possibly offer advice:
http://www.1uhost.com/
http://www.technolojik.net/
http://l <removed>.com/ <-- blocked, so I put a space. I'm taking the fact that it's blocked as a bad sign.
http://www.interscot.net
and especially http://www.activewebhosting.com
Those are the ones that I am considering. I know that "unlimited" isn't really unlimited and I've kept that in mind. I would like to offer some friends space, so multiple FTPs for subdomains are nice and also I really need a fast loading page. Control Panels are good, but not a must.
Any suggestions or comments on the hosts I've listed? Any amount of help is appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read :-]

Global-Host2 07-19-2002, 01:44 AM Don't know much about any. I would forget the blocked host. Try searching the forum.
21inchguns 07-19-2002, 01:45 AM where did you find this bunch of hosts......
I personally wouldnt use any of them..........
Angel78 07-19-2002, 03:08 AM never heard anything (bad or good) about these host's, but the ones offering unlimited are lying, so they could be lying about uptime, support, their servers..many other things too.
Synthetic 07-19-2002, 03:08 AM http://www.technolojik.net - This company offers unlimited bandwidth/webspace plans. If I were you I'd avoid any host that claims to offer such a thing.
http://l <snip>.com/ <-- blocked, so I put a space. I'm taking the fact that it's blocked as a bad sign.
http://www.interscot.net
Indeed. You should cross them off your list...
http://www.activewebhosting.com - They really don't include much information regarding their plans. They do however seem to have quite a large client base.
I don't have any experience with any of the hosts' you mentioned, never even heard of them before. One thing I'd suggest is e-mailing each of them to see how their support is.
Jedito 07-19-2002, 03:16 AM technolojik.net, unlimited bandwidth and space for $1.66/month?
I know that you may be looking for a cheap host, but, come on :)
BTW, why are you still looking in "unlimited hosts" when you know that's a lie?
edude 07-19-2002, 03:18 AM I agree Jorge,
You get what you pay for ;)
1upromo 07-19-2002, 11:29 AM technolojik.net - This hosting comany donhost or fasthost reseller possible.
undoonga 07-19-2002, 04:21 PM First off, I'd like to thank everyone for replying. You are all very helpful and I appreciate it.
<< where did you find this bunch of hosts >>
lol. I don't know. It was a host search, but I can't remember the address.
<< They really don't include much information regarding their plans. They do however seem to have quite a large client base. >>
They actually don't offer any other features other than what's on the main page. Perhaps that's why they can offer is so inexpensively :-] And I visited a lot of the sites that they host and most of them even make and effort to recommend them.
<< unlimited bandwidth and space for $1.66/month? >>
ha, that does seem really shady. [scratches that one out]
<< BTW, why are you still looking in "unlimited hosts" when you know that's a lie? >>
Well, a lot of the hosts that offer 1,000MB are just as much a rip off as some of the unlimited ones. I know that my site and my friends' sites aren't going to crash their servers, so even if something isn't really "unlimited" it won't matter. I've been searching for a good host for a really long time now. I've searched for other hosts that aren't unlimited, but I've had no luck with any of those. If anyone could recommend any hosts that aren't unlimited, would you please let me know?

andiegirl 07-19-2002, 04:58 PM Don't go with Active Webhosting! I've heard from numerous people that they've kicked alot of people because they have taken up too much space/bandwith.
Also I've heard theres something weird with their CGI-bin.
Why not go with www.e-starr.net? They are pretty cheap and I've only heard good things about them.
Don't even think about those hosts that SAYS they'll gives you unlimited.

Probably you'll have to rise your budget.
You know, Webhosting its like every service "what you get is what you pay for"
undoonga 07-19-2002, 06:37 PM << what about www.crystalweb.biz >>
Thanks very much. I'm going to do my research, but they look really good. Not only can you pay by the month, but they also offer 30 days money back. Looks great. Thanks!
undoonga 07-19-2002, 07:05 PM << you'll have to rise your budget >>
I want to raise my budget. lol. I wish I could, but I can't right now. It's pretty much just $15/mo. ;)
RobTheGolfer 07-20-2002, 02:39 AM I had a new client sign up the other day who had horrible experiences with activewebhosting.
Junia 07-20-2002, 09:18 AM I dont know any of those companies. I have used two recently. But the one I like best is Dixie Systems, www.dixiesys.com .
I like the packages available and the priceing structure. I signed up for a reseller account. Signed up on a Special and got double the space for the money. I especially like the friendly tech support. And fast service. Its a mid size host, but their good ppl and I like the service.
WashyGirl 07-20-2002, 10:12 PM A company offering unlimited just isn't going to have very good quality if they lie. I just wouldn't trust them. Someone suggested e-starr.net which is run by an old friend of mine, Amy. She used to host my website (not paid for hosting, she gave me an FTP account off of her domain for my website) and she's really nice. Also some very good specials going on ;)
FeBox 07-20-2002, 10:40 PM Yep, I have had experience with them. They were my very first webhost a while back. There current setup made things hard to do anything, this is basically a webhoster for About Me homepages...heh... lemme list them.
1. You dont have a /cgi-bin.....you have a cgi.yourdomain.com....and its a totally differnent server....so you have to configure your scripts differently.
2.There is no cPanel...or anything like that.
3. Its run by a husband and wife, and i think maybe 1 other guy who does some of the tech stuff.
4. You have to pay I think 10 bucks per SUBDOMAIN, and you have to email them for them to set it up.
5. You get 1 Database.
6. There explanation of Unlimited Space: Only things dealing with your site, no .exe's no .zip's or any of that nature....but u can have any amount of pictures/html files.
and some other stuff.....i cant remember it was a while ago.....
SaraMo 07-20-2002, 10:56 PM << you'll have to rise your budget >>
I want to raise my budget. lol. I wish I could, but I can't right now. It's pretty much just $15/mo.
My budget's at $6 per month and I can get what I need...

Where are you hosted and what does your plan include? :-]
webhappy 07-21-2002, 02:06 PM Look at www.icdsoft.com
Dixiesys.com has a better deal until the end of the month though
