View Full Version : Steve irwin
ned patter 07-18-2002, 10:51 PM Isn't Steve Irwin the crocodile man just to fantastic?, he's a star.
He always seems to have the energy to make people laugh.
He was in Scotland today right and he was in the news studio and he went after a small fly..
Very entertaining man..
Gem Hexen 07-18-2002, 10:52 PM Sure, that is his goal...
ned patter 07-18-2002, 10:54 PM Most stars just sit on there arse and let the interviewer ask the questions while answering them badly..
He's fantastic.
ned patter 07-18-2002, 10:56 PM Must be a bit daft though to go after a fly:cool: .
He's bigger in the US than in home country! I'm a great fan of his -just so amazed at his level of energy and passion for what he does!
IGobyTerry 07-18-2002, 11:26 PM Did you see him on Conan? That was a funny show. Thought he was gonna jump up on conans desk and pound his chest like king kong bundy. Wait... that's what I'm gonna do when I become rich and famous.
TheGAME1264 07-18-2002, 11:54 PM They had him on a talk show here in Canada and the ratings for the show tripled just because of his presence.
There's one thing I don't get about him though. You'll see him on his show with half a dozen snakes in his hand or wrestling a a crocodile or something saying "you should NEVER EVER try this! These are HIGHLY DANGEROUS CREATURES and they CAN KILL!" If that's the case, buddy, why the heck are you doing it? And what would possess me to want to try it? "Yeah, it's a dull day, nothing doing. I think I'll go take on a 4000-pound reptile with a 3000 PSI bite to it! Yeah!"
ned patter 07-19-2002, 12:01 AM Well while watching kids TV they always say that..
seg fault 07-19-2002, 01:07 AM We all wrestle crocs out of our pools down here - stop the kangaroos from raiding our fridges and go wild pig hunting in our back yards
Synthetic 07-19-2002, 02:56 AM Steve Irwin... I actually find him to be rather annoying, but I guess he's okay. Obviously I'm not a fan or anything.
shaunewing 07-19-2002, 03:08 AM Steve Irwin annoys me immensely, and that ridiculous accent he puts on makes it even worse.

iamdave 07-19-2002, 03:17 AM That guy is awesome, and has no fear of anything what so ever.

Michael M 07-19-2002, 03:46 AM Not a fan at all.
Jim_UK 07-19-2002, 04:25 AM He was on the Graham Norton show (in the UK) the other night... highly amusing :D
jgriff64 07-19-2002, 04:56 AM Excellent, I think his programs are great. That guy can be excited about anything.
Not sure about his new film that is coming out, but will watch it anyway just to see.
ned patter 07-19-2002, 01:41 PM I now as that guy was saying he was on the graham norton show and he jumped in a pool of water, now not any other star i know would do that just to entertain people..
He was on childrens TV and he called a girl "mate":) .
filburt1 07-19-2002, 01:43 PM He was on the Daily Show a few days ago, it was great :D
redjackryan 07-19-2002, 02:17 PM Theres a fairly funny parody of Steve Irwin on www.joecartoon.com
akashik 07-19-2002, 02:38 PM well thank your lucky stars.. That man practically my neighbour compared to you lot. His zoo is less than 15 minutes drive from my front door.
When my finacee was out here a few years back I took her and our daughter to see him. If we'd been there a day earlier we could have seen him get taken by a croc during his show. Sadly we had to content ourselves with watching him with a large white bandage on his leg instead. :)

Rotifer 07-19-2002, 02:53 PM Is he playing a character? I envision Steve at the end of the day getting drunk, snorting a thick line of coke and smacking his wife up.
Vwebcom 07-19-2002, 03:03 PM The guy is so annoying I turn the channel even if I see a comercial about him. His accent could be a bit more fake also....

You'd think so, but as long as I can remember he's always been like that - well before anyone outside Queensland had ever heard of him.
Crikey!

Ah, I thought, perhaps, the Aussie's knew something we didn't... people keep saying his accent's fake.

it's borish, uneducated, and reeks of Australia's convict heritage, but there are people in Australia who speak like that - albeit with a little less enthusiasm. ;)
It's the same kind of difference you get between New Yorkers, Seattlites, and West Virginians. Same language for the most part, but not the same accent.
In fact, between Steve Irwin and Paul Hogan, people usually think I'm British when I'm overseas. :)

Oh dear.he's invaded our cinemas now http://www.mgm.com/crocodilehunter/home.html
There is no way to stop the guy!
ned patter 07-19-2002, 06:43 PM The only complaint i have about him is his shorts, there far to short and his wife now she is ugly..
MadSkilage 07-19-2002, 08:10 PM I was reading an article the other day about how his young daughter got bit on the face by a snake - I believe that his comment was "well, they've gotta learn"
Of course maybe Aussies are more resistant to snake bites than Americans.

Thats for sure! You gotta be coked up on something or drunker than a moose to wraaaaaastle with crocks! :D
bruce1234at 07-20-2002, 10:29 PM even if he is a pain, the man has made a lot of $$$$ from chasing crocs! :D
shaunewing 07-20-2002, 10:44 PM Well ,he has inspired a whole heap of "Steve Irwin Wannabees".
My grandmother is the secretary of the wildlife rescue branch where she lives. Since Steve Irwin she has received a heap of calls from people wanting to join so they can "crash tackle" wildlife.
*sighs*

andiegirl 07-20-2002, 10:57 PM Everytime he's on Animal Planet I switch channels. I just can't stand his accent!! It's horrible.

hahaha - I saw that show... I just didn't realize that guy would act like he does 24/7 - I bet everyone he sees routinely everyday doesn't need any coffee.

Either can I. What annoys me is that it makes the rest of the world think us Australians sound like that.
I've lived in Australia all my life and I don't know anybody that has an accent that remotely sounds like that - even I think he has an accent.
He obviously puts it on for show.

Webdude 07-21-2002, 01:30 AM Oh bah humbug on wimpy crocs! I'd be more than happy to let him in with one of our itty bitty kitties :D

seg fault 07-21-2002, 01:39 AM he has a bush accent - not the same as city folk - I do assure you it is real sadly enough :(

Hrmm, okidoki :)
I was reading up on him in the Internet Movie Database... this part quite surprised me:
Is scared to death of parrots, especially the sulfar crested cockatoo. When he was four years old he almost had his nose bitten off by his father's pet sulfar crest. The only bird he feels comfortable around is a black cockatoo named Ularoo.
I guess one has to be afraid of something.

Roy@ENHOST 07-21-2002, 10:06 AM I just watched his movie 2 days ago and I was quite entertained. Yes he has a weird accent but Im okay with it. Im more into the plot and content than the accent.
I owned 3 crocs in my life. One is very very tame comparable to a cat, the other fierce like a lion and the last one died 5 days after I got him, apparently killed by the fierce one. The fierce croc even bit one of my friend who stupidly idiotly stick his finger to its snout. I even knew the crocs gonna bite just as he did that and yes he got biten in the end. And FYI, the crocs are not those humongous one in steve's show. These are the babies.
APEXware 07-21-2002, 02:36 PM Man that dude is annoying.. We just got Animal Planet on cable here, and yesterday his show was on all day... I kept saying outloud 'you psycho' when he'd practically beg poisonous snakes to bite him. He was practically orgasmic because he found a huge diamondback snake saying it was the greatest thing to ever happen in his life..Dude is nuts, but it is fun watching him almost get bit.

I seen some outtakes a while back on TV - they weren't on the actual show, they were on something else (I forget which).
There was a scene where he went just a bit too far with the snake. It lunged at him almost getting his nose (he jumped back quite far) and then went after the camera operator.
They didn't put it on the actual show.
It was hilarious! :D - but then again, that's what happens when you annoy snakes. If you're quiet and don't make any sudden moves they won't do anything - I was getting changed in a national park after a swim and a snake just slid past about 50cm away on the ground oblivious to the fact I was standing there.

FDrive 07-21-2002, 11:10 PM The thing that I like about Steve Irwin is that he really seems to care about the animals, he's not out to exploit them.
24Host Tech3 07-21-2002, 11:33 PM I think he is OK in small doses. All day marathons..Nope, can't stand it. When he is on for 30 min or so, I can handle that.

I don't know about that. When you're jamming your thumb up a crocodile's butt on a worldwide TV station and you have T-shirt, hat, cup, and other endorsement deals on the side, there's a little exploitation going on at some point.
Nevertheless I think he really does care at least somewhat about the animals. Without them, he's nothing. The animals make him what he is, a star.
