Does anyone know if they will continue free service? alchiba 07-18-2002, 02:50 PM I think the goal at CCS was to eventually go to a paid service. I understand they've addressed their reliability issues but I still consider the product to be in a late beta stage and not revenue-ready. Techark 07-18-2002, 02:56 PM They never addressed the issue of it hanging your web site if their server goes down and for me $20.00 a month is not worth it. It is a good chat program but the price is to high and the hassle of loading and unloading their code if their server crashes just so it does not take 3 minutes to load a web page is not worth that kind of money. There is another service that someone posted about on here for $4.95 a month I am looking for that post right now. Global-Host2 07-18-2002, 03:48 PM Please post. phplivechat i dont like. $20 month isnt that high for us, its just it need more features like transfer op. Also they have newer + faster server for paying. Techark 07-18-2002, 04:38 PM Ahh here it is. http://www.powertalk.com Just signed up with them will let you know how it goes. Global Host the $20.00 does not bother me as much as the fact that I cannot depend on someone elses server for my web site to be working. If Kenny would fix the code I might stay with him but I do not care how reliable a server he claims to be getting or has gotten, I cannot afford for visitors to see my site appear down. I have tried to point this out to him numerous times and each time he says he his getting a better server. But still misses my point. His program did not do kill my site until the last major change he made. I asked him if he could roll it back to the old version until he could fix the new one, but he does not want to and that alone makes it not worth $20.00 a month. If I spend $500.00 on ads and I lose 20 or 30 visitors because my site appears to load like crap it is not worth it. ClickChatSold.com Oh man! :( k6cheung 07-18-2002, 05:11 PM Hello Monte, Just want to let you know that powertalk.com is the same as phplivesupport but running on their server. From my understanding, phplivesupport will cost high CPU time and it will quite slow for high volumn transaction. (AND you're depending on someone's server as well) We have a working cgi script that can prevent your site from slowing down IF our server crashed. However, we haven't finish testing the script and therefore, we aren't ready to release it yet. But if you want the pre-release version, just let me know and I will send you a copy. KC. Global-Host2 07-18-2002, 05:12 PM What does " 3 concurrent account ' mean? 3 operatirs at a time? Global-Host2 07-18-2002, 05:14 PM I just checked that out and its oen where you have to login at their site. I hate those programs:bawling: k6cheung 07-18-2002, 05:33 PM Global-host2, They're the same as phplivesupport but hosted on their server. If you don't like phplivesupport, you won't like them as well. KC. iamdave 07-18-2002, 06:01 PM Originally posted by Monte They never addressed the issue of it hanging your web site if their server goes down and for me $20.00 a month is not worth it. Yes, it's not really worth to pay $20 per month, when you can goto BraveNET, and get HumanClick for that price, which is a very stable program, and they have very stable servers. WebmastTroy 07-19-2002, 01:27 AM From the problems and downtime I've experienced with having CCS so far, I don't plan on paying $20/month for that....even if they do have "better" servers. Techark 07-19-2002, 01:46 PM Originally posted by k6cheung Hello Monte, Just want to let you know that powertalk.com is the same as phplivesupport but running on their server. KC As I have told you before you have the best program out, but it also has problems with the slow down of the site. If your cgi program fixes that problem, great. But I still think you are over shooting your market a little at $20.00 a month. I would love to stay a customer of yours and I am willing to pay but at $20.00 a month you are going to have to show me something more than I have seen the last couple of months. Send me the script and I will try it until the 24th then I will make the decsion to stay with you or go with someone else. And I hope by then after reading this and the other threads on here you will re-think your pricing a little. k6cheung 07-19-2002, 02:12 PM Originally posted by Monte I would love to stay a customer of yours and I am willing to pay but at $20.00 a month you are going to have to show me something more than I have seen the last couple of months. Yeah, you can definitely wait abit and see how stable we're with the new server. :D . If you mean 'something more' as in features, we can't wait to show your our next version's feature list. Send me the script and I will try it until the 24th then I will make the decsion to stay with you or go with someone else. And I hope by then after reading this and the other threads on here you will re-think your pricing a little. Already PM you. ljprevo 07-19-2002, 03:27 PM I wish there was a program like this where you got the server side and client side software. This way you would not have to rely on someone elses server. Anybody know of one like that? Gyrbo 07-19-2002, 05:02 PM I don't mean to self-advertise, but I wrote a script for that exact purpose. My site is currently not working, but you can download it at http://gyrbo.valcato.net/downloads/ThinkSupport-0.1.zip ljprevo 07-19-2002, 05:11 PM Thanks Gyrbo, I appreciate that! I will take a look at it. Global-Host2 07-19-2002, 06:50 PM Me2. Im chekcing it out. Global-Host2 07-19-2002, 07:06 PM Took me a while to fix some bugs in it, then it just wouldnt work. Admin and Client wouldnt connect. iamdave 07-19-2002, 07:40 PM Originally posted by Global-Host2 Took me a while to fix some bugs in it, then it just wouldnt work. Admin and Client wouldnt connect. When I run the install.php, it asks for a username and password, what did you put for these two? Global-Host2 07-19-2002, 09:11 PM You make one, LOL. iamdave 07-19-2002, 09:35 PM Originally posted by Global-Host2 You make one, LOL. I'm not stupid, I tried that, before I posted. Still didn't work. Global-Host2 07-20-2002, 12:44 AM try chmodign fodlers + files so there writeable. iamdave 07-20-2002, 12:56 AM I did that, still I cannot login at /op . iamdave 07-20-2002, 12:57 AM Any ideas? Global-Host2 07-20-2002, 02:34 AM make a folder called operators and chmod it 777, if you still need help ill do it, but it didnt work for me. Global-Host2 07-20-2002, 02:35 AM Just found phplivesupport used winapp, got it, great product. Really nice. iamdave 07-20-2002, 02:37 AM What the hell is winapp? iamdave 07-20-2002, 02:39 AM This script is wack, it doesn't work, and I really think it would be a good script if it would work, maybe the author should make sure it works before he makes it available for download. Gyrbo 07-20-2002, 07:19 AM I'm sorry that I didn't included any more documentation, but I wrote the script in one day and wrote the readme in 2 minutes. Just to let you know, it does work (but maybe only on my box :D). Basic steps are: 1. Upload everything to a folder on your site 2. CHMOD operators, customers, customers/0000000000.chat.txt and config.inc.php to writable. 3. Run install.php 4. Go to http://yoursite/ThinkSupport/op/ and login with the usename/password you entered in step 3. I'm still working on a small script that says if an operator is online. Gyrbo 07-20-2002, 08:28 AM Here is an update, it should fix the installation problems. It also includes a file named online.php you can include this with javascript on your pages to display a button with the operator status (online/offline). Enjoy! [EDIT] I have a demo up: http://www.gyrbo.valcato.net/ThinkSupport/ Operator Panel: http://www.gyrbo.valcato.net/ThinkSupport/op/ (Demo/demo) Global-Host2 07-20-2002, 02:36 PM Originally posted by iamdave What the hell is winapp? Its so you can retrieve requests and do chats from your sys tray. I love it much now. Most of my ops juts use web based tho. iamdave 07-21-2002, 01:04 AM Originally posted by Gyrbo Here is an update, it should fix the installation problems. [EDIT] I have a demo up: http://www.gyrbo.valcato.net/ThinkSupport/ Operator Panel: http://www.gyrbo.valcato.net/ThinkSupport/op/ (Demo/demo) Are you sure it works? The install.php still doesn't work. iamdave 07-21-2002, 01:05 AM I really want to use the program, but I think something is wrong with it. Gyrbo 07-21-2002, 09:27 AM What are the errors that install.php gives? I have found one thing: The password isn't being md5()ed properly. I had to manually insert the correct md5 checksum in config.inc.php. I'm trying to fix it, but I don't see the error. Global-Host2 07-21-2002, 02:21 PM make sure you chmod everything. iamdave 07-21-2002, 04:33 PM Yes no error, however when I enter the username and password it does not insert it into the config.inc.php and does not create the md5 checksum. After running config.inc.php, those 3 fields are left the way they are. Gyrbo 07-21-2002, 05:31 PM I have a small site up until I get the main site fixed. Please discuss anything related in that forum and not here since it's a little off-topic. http://thinksupport.mirrorz.com |
