View Full Version : Rackmounted.Com: Server Blowout!! From $29/month
datarealm 06-20-2007, 04:09 PM We have amassed quite a large inventory of servers over the years and have started placing server specials online. These machines are available on a first come, first serve basis.
All servers include 2000GB monthly bandwidth, 8 IP addresses (assigned on an as-needed basis), remote reboot capbilities, choice of OS (extra fees apply for Windows) and our top-notch support.
Example configurations:
1.8 GHz Celeron
256 MB RAM
40 GB IDE
$29/mo
2.4 GHz Celeron
512 MB RAM
80 GB IDE
$54/mo
Please see http://www.rackmounted.com/specials.php for more servers.
Our datacenter has all the usual trimmings (UPS failover to generator, etc) as well as dual 10Gbps links in various directions (one routes east, one routes west) onto a private 10Gbps (and constantly upgrading) global backbone. We also have a 10Gbps link onto a Metro WAN, gobs of dark fiber, and now over 1Tbps of peering capacity!!
Check out this review from one of thousands of satisfied customers describing our unreal level of support in detail:

We offer Plesk though we don't have any special deals, so honestly its best to just license it directly.

datarealm 06-21-2007, 09:29 AM ddos protection?
Not on a network level. Some people setup iptables to monitor and drop packets if there's a flood. If something really jumps out, we will blackhole it upstream.
you use gblx as transit?
We use Limelight Networks for transit. They have their own 10Gbit backbone (a lot of it from gblx fiber) and last we checked they had over 200 independent peering arrangements

We don't have any automated ordering for these special servers, so we're requiring people to fax in credit card details so we can manually create the accounts. After that you can switch to paypal if you would like.
We do not support google checkout.

Well that's embarrassing. We upgraded spamassassin on our ticketing server last night and it was working just fine up until about 30 minutes ago (its back now). Would have been nice if it had deferred mail instead of outright bouncing it.

I am sorry, but we are only accepting orders via fax at this time. If you want to order one of our regularly offered servers, that can be done via our web site.

What happens when you try? I just tested it offsite and the file started downloading right away.

Weird. It should start downloading the file so you can see the transfer rate. Worked great in firefox... It was just something we threw up quick in response to an earlier query

That's just the way we chose to handle it to keep track of everything.

Caleb20103 06-21-2007, 04:04 PM Is there any other way we could order one of these? Straight up faxing you my credit card info is not going to happen, it's extremely sensitive information?....
Entering it into modernbill during checkout is different because even the MB admin is not allowed to view the full CC number, but you are asking us to fax you all of the CC info, uncensored...
Could you rethink this? I've never seen anything quite like it and it just seems really odd to me.
Thanks,
Caleb

Actually, the modernbill admin armed with the encryption key can see the full cc details.

zetaf 06-21-2007, 05:28 PM cant we just take a photo on our credit card and email to you
SLIMX2009 06-22-2007, 02:18 PM Yep same reason I didnt order. I dont have access to a fax, and I dont like the idea of someone seeing all of my info. Its too risky no matter the price.
-how is your support?
-test ip?
-do you also offer kvm over ip?
-do you install our own w2k3 licence?
dindon 06-23-2007, 08:20 PM do you offer memory upgrade for this $29 server??
viettechorg 06-24-2007, 03:01 AM This is something called: too good to be true.
But if you accept PP or something, i may go ahead and give it a try. Great deal.
agnivo007 06-24-2007, 07:22 AM Yes, I'd take a $39 server if you allow verified paypal (130+ feedbacks) payment and not faxing credit card info.
I know these servers have become liabilities for your company, but sometimes you can gain more word of mouth popularity by accepting requests from customers like us.
nimbar 06-24-2007, 07:46 AM Set up fee?. Thnx.
zetaf 06-24-2007, 08:18 AM So you do take paypal now i see.. a very good news ... so i just need to verify my paypal account to order those 29 dollars servers
is the connection dedicated?
Caleb20103 06-24-2007, 10:50 AM Where do you see they accept paypal? Mine is verified (40 buyers) so this would work for me.
Ayeros 06-24-2007, 05:08 PM Whats about all of you scared about fax cc number ? u dont know thats a credit card is protected against fraud ? if a compagnie fraud you, u just call ur credit card tech and it will charge back the fraudulent person .... ist not like a ATM card. YOU are protected again fraud ... i ordered a box with them with my cc faxed and no prob about this.
SLIMX2009 06-24-2007, 05:13 PM Debit cards are not protected and of course some of us dont have easy access to a fax machine. But no problem I already ordered with another company.
Ayeros 06-24-2007, 05:17 PM this why i say Credit Card are protected and i dont say thats atm card is.
zetaf 06-24-2007, 07:10 PM please really reconsider ur payment method as you probaly see we are really against faxing or giving cc information at all.
please have paypal as payment method you will earn more money then now
nimbar 06-25-2007, 12:54 PM Hi, I just got this answer from their sales support, it may help:
You may pay for the server with Paypal after the first payment, but the first payment must be a credit card, money order, cashiers check, Western Union, or a personal check (which would have to clear first).
Deaken
Greetings
viettechorg 06-26-2007, 11:11 AM So what is the point of forcing customer to pay via CC then allow them to pay via PP later?
It's weird.
Ayeros 06-27-2007, 05:44 PM very slow tech support. posted a ticket for cancellation and no reply. i dont care anyway it gonna be chargeback if no response. BAD SUPPORT
datarealm 06-27-2007, 05:55 PM very slow tech support. posted a ticket for cancellation and no reply. i dont care anyway it gonna be chargeback if no response. BAD SUPPORT
It's obviously hard to tell who you are from your nick, but based off the content of your message I think I have a fair idea.
If I am correct, all of your "SUPPORT" tickets were handled promptly the entire weekend. Then you emailed in to cancel your order yesterday before we even had time to install the server.
The ticket was kicked over to our billing department, which as you might guess is not staffed as broadly as our support department. However I am sure your refund will be processed by close of business tomorrow.
