I thought you all would like to see this.

I had to repair a server the other day that was hit by Lightening.

Take a look at the damage to the Hughes Direct PC board!

This was in a Video Server in a SAMs.

The odd thing is that the systems LNB (receiver) was not damaged and worked fine when I replaced the Direct PC Board.

Life is odd some times!

That was a pretty lucky escape, and goes to show that you should always use a proper UPS or other power filtering device for important hardware.

Some of the people would not seen it on the tech board.

I just think it is a cool photo!

I am not selling them! ;)


The server was on a UPS. The Direct PC board is hooked up to the Sat. dish's LNB.

I've had a 56K modem get killed by lightning, but without the cool burn marks or visible damage.
