I had to repair a server the other day that was hit by Lightening.

Nasty. Seems kind of weird where the burn is.

We've never had any lightening damage - but then again we have spike/lightening arrestors on all telecommunication and power lines (not to mention the fact we aren't in a high risk lightening area)

The old thing about this was that the LNB was not hurt at all. I replaced the Direct PC board and the system came up and worked fine!

It was very odd.

I also have had a LAN card get hit and took out a raid 5 controller and two of the three drives! The lightening can in on a cable modem.

After I repaired the box we found that the cable modem was not hurt at all. It worked like a champ!

Life is odd at times!

Sounds like you've had pretty ishty lucky with lightning.

I'd consider moving somewhere with less lightning. :)

I am in Pensacola Fl. lightning is just part of life here. I think of it as job scurity! :)

Holy crap.... Time to get a bigger surge protecter....

Last summer, lightning hit near here. I lost a vcr, router and one phone jack on a surge protected power bar. It also fried the cable modem. That was a fun week...
You're right about living with lighting in Florida, it's apparently the lightning capital of North America. My dad is in Miami and his house got hit by lightning a week ago. Blew a huge hole in the roof. I told him he should start buying lottery tickets!
