View Full Version : Looking for a reseller account

I am looking for a reseller account to host some websites for my friends and me. I am a bit scared of how many complaints I read on this forum. I am looking for a fair price, good uptime (99.5%), prompt support, several scripting languages and SSH.

Please give me some recommendations.

not many resellers offer ssh - you may have a problem with finding the host that provides ssh

There are a lot of hosts with SSH. I received some offers by e-mail but I am looking for recommendations. I just want to know who is serious. I don’t want to post something like “Help”, ”XYZhost stinks”, “Total rip-off”, etc after two months.

Huh? Lot's of resellers have SSH...shouldn't be a problem to find a reseller with SSH at all.

Some do, some don't. We don't.

I think quite a lot do, but offer it on demand, and not by default.

Some hosts have learned not to offer it outright but require at least some sort proof of need. Most things you can do with SSH you can do with CPanel (for example), otherwise your host can help you.

Yes. I am considering your host. I am looking for other great hosts before making a choice.

I wonder why I have to ask for SSH and why the domain limit (although 60 is enough) when there is no cost for you.

About the SSH stuff …
I don’t intend to hack my own host. I can translate any C exploit/ fork bomb/ worm to a nice Perl CGI. Some wrong scripts have the same effect :) . Not allowing SSH for security reasons it’s a joke. Using SSH makes my account (and your server) more secure. If I have a problem I will fix it without waiting for a support ticket. Users will need a shell to install some scripts. I would like to tar all my files and make my own backup. (Read on WHT about serious hosts with so-called daily backups). Etc. Etc. Etc.

Are these good enough reasons to get SSH on SplashHost ?

Everyone's got an opinion on this subject :cartman: and it's just one of those things that each host decides for themselves. There's no right and wrong here. It's just what's better for my business and my clients etc..

Go for it. Allan's servers are good. I think he uses SCSI drives [maybe RAID1 ??] and has good upstream network providers. Just ask for load averages etc. Oh and yes, you get the almighty SSH :D so go for it. :)

We will give access to almost anyone who wants, i do ask before hand what you want it for because about 1 in 10 people say to set up an irc server lol. We have domain name limits to help stop the server being overloaded.

Never really seen the connection to actual server loads and simply the number of domains on a server. Looks good in the marketing spin and that's about it. It's more about the number of reseller accounts and the resources that each reseller can use. But that's a different discussion for another day. ;)

Yeah theres a 10 page thread on that one somewhere if you want to search for it.

Wow! This is the second page and only one suggestion.

Thanks Aussie Bob for your suggestion.

I start this thread to find out which are the hosts I should consider. I just want to use SSH and if a host is not using it than it has its reasons. It is not my problem.

I am considering:
Voxtreme
McHost
SplashHost
SurrenderOnline
MatrixReseller

Please tell me if I missing a great host or you know a reason why I shouldn’t use one of the above.

Regards,
Daniel

We have dealings with SurrenderOnline, they are great at what they do. I have talked to some of there resellers and they are very happy with there service.

Most seem shy to mention anything in Web hosting talk but no news is good news.right!

thanx
