Greetings all from a newbie,
We were approached by a medical center about setting them up with an FTP site for the physicians to upload their notes and have them transcribed by work at home employees. What do you recommend as a good set up ? We have never done this before.
Should we:
Set it up in individual accounts?
Set it up with SSL for encryption and secure logins?
Install SSL as root or in a separate folder?
Any recommended software to use for both Linux and Windows?
And can the software be branded by us?
They have about 15 doctors and transcribers at different locations.
Thanks for any input and for helping us get this off on the right footing.

I'd expect SSL is a must for doctors notes. As for the software we use PureFTPd for our server as its very flexible. It pulls all the user accounts from mysql, that way you could keep all the files under one (unix) account where you could keep a better eye over their access perhaps?

The data is definitely going to have to be secure. Since it is a medical center they are governed largely by HIPPA. You should check HIPPA guidelines for data security.

I think there is also a new security that was introduced this year as well for the healthcare industry but I can't remember if it is only insurance companies.

Thanks for the input. Can anyone recommend a FTP Client that can run on a Windows desktop and be branded with our company name ?

hmm
I use Filezilla. I also used to use SmartFTP, but found it not so reliable
