Do you guys think offering a free domain name with every hosting account would be worth the investment?

I think it can be a nice "hook," as long as you specify that they can't get their free domain name and then leave within your 30-day money-back period. Perhaps it's best to have a stipulation that if they leave before you've received enough revenue to pay for the domain name, they owe you $10 or $20 for it.

Would a 6 month prepay deal be good as well?

Definately have some time limit for transfers under the free program.

As for the prepay, it would also help if the prepay plan has a discount.

Yes, that a good idea.
Do not forget to make terms that once they move to another webhosting company, they could renew their domain only for $xx per year. (you decide)

As for the question, many hosts offer this, but you want to be sure that you don't register domains for people who them just cancel their hosting account and get a free domain. This was brought up in another thread, and while it looks bad to register domains in *your* name, it might be the only way to prevent this.

Maybe change it over in 6 months time, or ???

I'm just concerned about if people were to sign up for the domain name and leave me hanging :)
