View Full Version : Who to register a Domain Name with?

Hello,

I've been reading through these forums for the past couple of days now, that is where I came across the idea of registering my domain name separate from my hosting company.

I decided to try eNom, since it is very highly thought of on this forum. But upon registering I've come across a minimum charge of $195.00. This is too much for me, an individual with only 2-3 domain names. I presume the charge is required to become a reseller, but I don't particularly want nor need to be a reseller.

I am a little lost to who to register my domain name with. I’ve already got a domain name + hosting with GoDaddy, and I can’t stand their uncomfortably complicated interface. Nor am I fond of 1and1. Please can someone share a few companies, where I as an individual, with only a few domain names, can register.

I thank you for you help.

Kind regards

I registered some of my domains with netfirms.com
Something around $4-5 for first year, and $10 to renew

Do you really need uk name?
What should be your target audience?
And how do you plan to market this site?

We highly recommend Name cheap as they provide a very user friendly interface and also support the .CO.UK TLD
They currently have a coupon:
JuneBugz
although at this time I am not sure if it would be valid for .CO.UK

Do you really need uk name? The domain name I want is available on .co.uk.

What should be your target audience? And how do you plan to market this site? The site would be an online resume/CV, to accompany written job applications, and/or to display personal projects.

We highly recommend Name cheap as they provide a very user friendly interface and also support the .CO.UK TLD
They currently have a coupon: JuneBugz although at this time I am not sure if it would be valid for .CO.UKThey are charging about $18 for a .co.uk domain name, whereas 1and1 are doing it for just under £5. So I've now registered my site with them.

Thank you all anyways.

Kind regards

Host monster will give you free domain for life. I think that this should be valid for uk domain also, but I,m not 100% sure. If this is true, You don't have to pay $10 or more for yearly renewal. You'll pay for hosting only. If you are planning to use one of free PHP scripts to support your CV/resume site, they also offer big amount of scripts through fantastico script library. I have very positive experience for hosting Joomla sites with them.

I think you should go for one of the big registrars, Al Saeed, because you"re quite inexperienced with domain registration. I wouldn't select for you a lesser known or troublesome registrar which we domainers might use because we like some feature or other.

My suggestion would be you go with GoDaddy (1st), An eNom reseller like DomainSmarty.com or NameCheap.com (2nd). NameCheap don't use the eNom control panel, but they're good, except support can be a bit slow. I don't know any big, reliable registrars in the UK. Maybe someone else could suggest a registrar there.
