facebookcom.com ?
megauploadcom.com ?

I understand these are highly visited domains. I also understand that there are some individuals that want to make money off this traffic with advertisements. That is, turning their parked domains into PPC campaigns where they earn money. But why would someone in their right mind enter "com" twice? I can see it if they type in facebookcom (without putting in the period), but where do they get the extra com? Is it because they type in facebookcom and then Control+Shift. How else can you arrive at their domain? But still, it seems like traffic is close to null even for such sites, so why bother registering these doamins. What are other instances which would take someone to such websites?

I can't justify why someone would pay for such domain names if it is such a rare probability. Perhaps someone can elucidate on how it is profitable. Thanks in advance.

In certain browsers like Opera you just have to enter the domain name and press enter. For example if I need to go to MSN.com I just have to type msn and press enter. So if someone types MSNCOM and presses enter then the person who has "msncom.com" gets the traffic. [I just now checked with Mozilla Firefox v1.5.00.11 and there too it works the same way]

Considering the increasing number of internet users globally this volume of traffic can earn a significant amount of money. However if competitors try to redirect the traffic to their websites then can raise legal issues in domain squatting.
