Well, my partnership is gone and now I'm the sole proprietor of my web hosting company which doesn't have a lot of customers due to the fact that I didn't go out looking for them, YET.

anyways, the reason that I'm here today is that I was thinking about sponsoring projects/websites by providing hosting and maybe domain name.
so I decided to drop by and listen to the experts.

What do you guys think?
Should I give domain names if its needed?
What should be my terms and what should I call it?
Should I require a profit portion?
Please, let me know your thoughts!!!

I guess you need to offer much more value that that.

Sites like sourceforge etc are already doing that for free.

you can always sponsors community websites or charities. surely you may just ask your business name all over the wall, not necessarily asking for any kind of money. after all, it is kinda free publicity or advertising, well not absolutely free thou because you are giving away resources for free.

We've sponsored sites before and usually do it on a year term (or longer, depending)
I would not recommend providing the free domain registration though.
As far as advertising for you, I would just request a link or banner from sponsored site. Most would be happy to do that if they get free hosting.

Sponsoring projects is not a very good way to gain new PAYING customers. The conversion ratio just isn't there.
