Ok, here's the deal, I have a site that has two active message boards (one has 400 members, the other has 80)

My hit counter on my site say since January 4th I have had 20,000 vistors.

My (terrible) host has just shut me down (again) for being over my bandwidth (I'm allowed 10 gigs)

Two days ago, I was down, and paid for an extra gig, now I'm back down again. Am I really going through 1 GIG of bandwidth in TWO days?!?!?!?

I think my host is stickin it to me....

what do you think?

Hi
Do you use cPanel? If you do then you can check out how much bandwidth you are going through in your control panel homepage.

The amount of bandwidth you use will depend on the content of your site, if it has a mainly image based interface you will use a lot of bandwidth but just text based will use a lot less.

Yes, but the cpanel there is buggy, and never has the correct amount. Yeah my site is about graphics. I wonder why this just started all of the sudden. In the past I never went abouve 5 GIGS a month, now I went through 10. It's just really weird. By the way, I'm with Aletia hosting, and If they ever answer my ticket regarding my domain name, I'm outta there!!!

I'm planning on it. I have to get my domain name off of them first and they wont answer my ticket or emails.

"I have to get my domain name off " Did you registered domain name trough them or? If so hm....that was a bad idea if not simple login to your domain account and change the dns servers :)

Yes, when I signed up (paid a year in advance) it came with the domain name. M passowrd isn't working, and like I said, they wont answer my emails or tickets. I know a few people that have hosting with aletia, and their tickets are getting blown off too.

If they have a telephone number, it would be a good idea to contact them via that method.

It sounds as if they are having problems, or they are another hosting firm down the pan, either way you need to get your domain away from them to keep it up.

I suggest you leave to old fashioned way.

go to Godaddy.com

sign up and transfer your domain to Go daddy. ( cost you 8.95, plus adds another year to the registration )

then go get a host!

i've done this once with a host .. cause i couldn't get in touch with them by e-mail .. after like 5 attempts.. that was it, i was gone :)

umm.. can I do that if the domain name is in their name not mine?

ammm it wont work, they (aletia) are registered as Registrant,Billing, Administrative and Technical Contact, and even more domain is Protected...so i guess if this domain is worth to you and you have a receipt that you payed for hosting and domain...try contacting them if they refuse to let you own the domain, report them to BBB and contact your lawyer..:(

man that Aletia guy's suck...

to get back to the first question asked.. is it possible to use that much bandwidth in two days?

sure it is.. We have customers with active forums that eat up gigabytes of data a day

so my question is why does your host suck for simply telling you the truth?

In regard to the domain name, if they registered the domain name in their name, you may have grounds to go after them, esp. if the domain name is "that important to you"

Read this:
http://manual.aletia.com/index.cgi?answer=1011031149&id=1010929198

Does Aletia offer a money-back guarantee?

Yes, we offer a 30-day unconditional money-back guarantee for both monthly and annual packages. The free domain name provided with annual packages is non-refundable, but will cost only $9.95 for one year rather than the $12-35 per year that most domain registrars charge

How can they charge you for the "FREE domain name"? If they do, then it should be yours, registered to you correct?

So, what Angel78 said.

Because they simply refuse to answer my emails, my support tickets, my telephone calls.... And their Cpanel doesn't show accurate stats. That's why.
