View Full Version : Crime in the UK
ned patter 07-16-2002, 10:28 PM Crime in the Uk is getting much worse don't you's think? and something has to be done about it..
I'm still yound and i've never done anything bad once and have never really been in a gang so i don't see why other youngsters do.
There all saps anyway and i could have them in a minute but it's still not right the way young ones behave.
that's it.
edude 07-16-2002, 10:30 PM Shoot on sight
ned patter 07-16-2002, 10:33 PM Shoot someone you mean?.
Axel Teflon 07-16-2002, 11:03 PM UK... are you refering to Uk in general because Northern Ireland is a pretty violence place compared to other parts.
ned patter 07-16-2002, 11:09 PM Well i don't know about ireland like. It's just small riots, in Scotland you get better riots at football matches..
Glasgow i thinks the most violent place in the UK seriously..
I was in glasgow last week and you should see there busses they are smashed to hell but anyway i'm talking about more serious things..
edude 07-16-2002, 11:10 PM Yes shoot someone, the more strict the law, the less trouble..
ned patter 07-16-2002, 11:16 PM That's all very well but i don't want to go to edude, i'm still a young man with many years ahead of me and i'm just not ready to go to jail well in a few year then yes maybe but just not the now.

You're kidding, right? (about Ireland)
seg fault 07-16-2002, 11:42 PM Dont the police only have batons and not guns?
Axel Teflon 07-17-2002, 12:04 AM Yep only batons.
If the police in Ireland had guns and started shouted, damit, then everyone would have guns.
For Example:
If one police officer fired a gun at a gang stiring up trouble, it would end with several police officers and god knows how many civilians injured or killed.

What if someone pulled out a gun on a police officer?
These kind of laws wouldn't work here in U.S.
Axel Teflon 07-17-2002, 12:17 AM If somebody pulled out a gun... there would be trouble.. a huge roit
ned patter 07-17-2002, 12:19 AM Nothern irelands police have guns but god knows about the rest of ireland, who ever hears anything about ireland apart from nothern ireland?.
Seriously People in Nothern Ireland are just kids that like to have riots now and again cause you see then on TV and there just little kids with stones and that and i tell you any kids behave like that around my place they will be getting stones through there windows.

Axel Teflon 07-17-2002, 12:36 AM The good people of NI, they don't riot... they just try and lead normal lives or march.
ned patter 07-17-2002, 12:46 AM March? that's not a normal thing to and rioters march then do there riot.
Axel Teflon 07-17-2002, 12:48 AM Peacefull March... the know, the guys that want to march.
The guys that don't want the other people to march riot... its all complicated.

Since you don't know anything about life, just shut the f**k up!
I am a british citizen and I hope you're not for you're the most hateful person around here and I would be utterfly ashamed if you are. That kind of message makes me puke, pure and simple.
I hope you're being a very young ******* and won't grow up to be a low file.
My opinion...others can disagree if they want, of course.
The Laughing Cow 07-17-2002, 05:43 AM In the UK generally the police are not armed. They get some cool ASP which incase you don't know is about 6 inches long and when you shake it it becomes about over a foot long and is like reinforced steel and would hurt a lot!
The police also have CS gas which I suppose is similar to Pepper spray they have in the US?
On top of that they have ARV's (armed response vehicles I think) which are armed police and have I think some sort of Colt and an MP5 pretty much standard issued. There are loads of them in every force and coupled with fast cars they can be anywhere quick (i'm sure they would use one of the helicopters if going rural perhaps).
Talking about guns I saw one of those programmes which have lots of shots from incar police videos. There was this one when a Police traffic land rover was following a Ford Sierra or something because he had out of date road tax. The guy stopped his car for a bit and pulled out a hand gun starting shooting at the car! You heard the police swearing big time. I bet they were shocked.
But to continue the video the bloke got in and they continued chasing. Next he decided to pull out an AK47 and start letting off rounds at this Land Rover!! Luckily noone was injured - but over some poxy road tax.
I don't think crime is getting worse - at least where I live. Though we all know there are some rough estates you should just avoid them.

Rotifer 07-17-2002, 12:11 PM After traveling in Britain it's always disheartening to arrive in the U.S. and see a fat, unkempt customs officer with an automatic strapped to his/her waist. And ... I think the comments you mentioned were tongue in cheek Cyan.

I jeff.I don't see why in london they have the officers with guns and not in the street, the worse thing the police at airports deal with is someone with a fake passport and there hardly going to have a gun..
I see people in Nothern Ireland are having another riot, well mind you it is tea time..
The Laughing Cow 07-17-2002, 12:46 PM Officers on the streets of London DO have guns. THey are just usually in vehicles afaik.
ned patter 07-17-2002, 12:57 PM Yep they may have guns in there vans and that but there never taken out or used which is pointless.

Pepper spray is useless around here, people have the internet then they buy loads of the stuff on the net for the freinds as well as themselves. Not that i see anything wrong with that.
It's a message to the police really, play the game or get out the job, carry a gun then we will carry a gun.
The Laughing Cow 07-17-2002, 01:22 PM Course the police don't leave firearms in the car when they get out :stickout
The take them with them on a shout. CS gas is pretty much considered a good restraining weapon. The Armed police can be to a shout probably as quick as the regular force anyhow.

That may be the biggest load of crap you've ever heard, but thats the truth. You taking out harsh and pathefic words for no aparent reason. I dunno what the rest of the world hear about Northern Ireland but taking this as a personal note from what you said, its a pretty bad place and I think I should know it better than anybody here.
Rotifer 07-17-2002, 02:20 PM I rode through N. Ireland on a bike. We met some fantastic people, but there are also some very tense areas. I must say that I enjoyed Belfast, though. I woke up the morning after crossing on the ferry with chunks of sod clutched in my hands .... the last thing I remembered was having so many Guinness lined up at a local pub that I never thought I would get through them all. I think the sod had something to do with throwing ourselves on the ground and thanking god we had finally made it to the homeland. Having traveled all over the world, the Irish are the most friendly people I've experienced ... without exception.

Axel, I think you misread me: Ned's post just makes it look like the problem in Ireland is with a bunch of kids whereas what I wrote is that it IS a pretty bad place. "Riotings is like sex to them": do you want the whole Ireland problem to be known like this? Do you want the world to believe that there is no problem in Ireland, only a bunch of kids playing around?
It's not just a matter of being bad people who enjoy beating the crap of each other; there are many good people in Ireland, and a lot of tension. And some people try to do something to make it stop but it's become a decades-long habit now and some people are just too happy to hate the others just for who they are.
That's what I meant, sorry if I was unclear. Believe me, I hate this whole situation certainly as much as you do, especially since, as Rotifer pointed out, there are so many good people over there.
Ned Patter, to quote you: "get rid of that attitude" -> read all my other posts here you'll see that it's the first time I use that attitude. Should make you wonder...
Axel Teflon 07-17-2002, 02:28 PM Sorry cyansmoker, mis understood you.
Rotifer, Thats a supricing remark! People over here are nice, there is nice people, however when certain dates come around theirs trouble. Especially around July 12th. However, I don't think I would rate the Irish the most friendly people around... apart from the old people that is.
Oh yeah... Don't get Ireland mixed up with Northern Ireland. There basically two completely different places.
Rotifer 07-17-2002, 02:35 PM Yeah, we spent quite a bit of time in both. We made a point of never discussing politics, I think this was much appreciated. The military patrols and such were unsettling, but we learned to ignore them. I can't imagine living with that everyday, however ... hasn't it improved over the last few years?
cyansmoker 07-17-2002, 02:35 PM Axel, I take it you must live there? Is it Ireland or Northern Ireland?
As an afterthought I would like to make it very clear that I am not denying that there is historical violence and, to make the matter worse, kids who enjoy rioting; just I'd hate for the world to believe that the latter ones are more relevant.
ned patter 07-17-2002, 02:36 PM BUT the people that riot in Nothern Ireland are kids..
There all 15 and 16 year old and for the older ones there well there just junkys..
Nothing to do with religion or anything, the same at football matches no one riots because of football they just feel like a riot.
Who lives in Nothern Ireland? ok are the rioters mostly kids? are the olders ones just older thugs that are junkys?.
It's true.

I am sure that Axel can give you more up-to-date information but according to some relatives: not at all :(
Rotifer 07-17-2002, 02:41 PM Oh ... we did have one bad experience. We were drinking at a pub in Enniskillen. A fellow buddies up to us (he was rather drunk) and everybody else scatters. He's buying us beer .. very chatty ... then he tells us (practically crying now) that he is in the RUC and everybody hates him. After he leaves, the bartender verifies this. It was a bad seen. Sorry, I've taken the thread off topic.
ned patter 07-17-2002, 02:42 PM I know for a fact that people go to Nothern Ireland to take part in the sunday lunch riot and after the riot they get the boat back to scotland..
Axel Teflon 07-17-2002, 02:46 PM Yes, I live in Northern Ireland.
And yes, I backup the point about the kids rioting.
Aboue the point of stupid rioting, a good bit of rioting is over religion. Religion is strong here and riots break out alot over it.
One roit in particular which happens every years, is men wanting to march down a street. The other religion doesn;t like it so starts rioting by throwing stones and petrol boms and what not etc etc.
The police do not use guns, instead they beat people with batons and then defence thingys they use.
Northern Ireland has also not improved over the past years and the chances of it looking to get improved is very unlikely. :(
The old people, well to be honest, i feel sorry for older people. Younger kids tend to find it funny to throw water ballons and everything at elders houses. Alot of the edlerly people over here are also single and live in bad neighbour hoods because its all they can afford. Old people do not roit. usually you may get the odd eldery person who would feel strong against what happens and shouts at the news on TV sometimes but thats how defence lesst hey are. They do not take part in the actual roiting, although some may take part in protests.
Axel Teflon 07-17-2002, 02:48 PM Rotifer beens up a point. Northern Ireland is full of groups, in other words similar to american hoods/mobs if ya know what I mean.
There's a pile, and its all over 2 religions. RUC, UFF, UFA, IRA.. dam the list goes on...
ned patter 07-17-2002, 02:52 PM I well if it was up to me i would get all the rioters shot but it would be a mass murder of kids.
Rotifer 07-17-2002, 02:53 PM I know for a fact that people go to Northern Ireland to take part in the sunday lunch riot and after the riot they get the boat back to scotland..
That is disturbing, you would think that the authorities would crack down on this.

Lol, what authorities
i don't think anybody would beable to do anything about it
Rotifer 07-17-2002, 02:57 PM Well, I think the U.S. must share some of the blame .. we fund the IRA, for the most part. Irish-Americans, that is.
cyansmoker 07-17-2002, 04:16 PM Originally posted by Axel Teflon One roit in particular which happens every years, is men wanting to march down a street. The other religion doesn;t like it so starts rioting by throwing stones and petrol boms and what not etc etc.
Yes, I take it you're talking about the orangists vs catholics. It's not entirely about religion, though. More like celebrating the fact that they're here and the others don't like it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Well, I guess we can say that it's all a nice mess. Sorry if I was a bit too harsh on Ned, I was just outraged by what I felt was a misrepresentation of the issues in an area with much deeper problems than just gratuitous rioting...
ned patter 07-17-2002, 06:03 PM Well what i'm trying to say here is that the riots have nothing to do with religion or if ireland part of the uk or not or any other reason. I have watched the stuff in Nothern Ireland many times before and all i see is kids chucking stones and puting cars on fire.
That just sounds like a bunch of criminals doesn't it? one side of some religion starts a riot then everyone in that streets thinks everyones just started this fight/riot because there sticking up for there religion when actually a bunch of teenagers started it because they got bored and never had anything else to do..
Burning things in the streets and acting like they do is a crime so there criminals and anyway who cares why is started all that anyone should be bothered about is stopping it or let the rioters kill each other and then others will know not to copy..
cyansmoker 07-17-2002, 06:30 PM Originally posted by ned patter

Again, I couldn't disagree more.
There are things that cannot be stopped unless you look at the big picture.
But I suggest we do not wander there, for this is a policital landmine and experience has taught me not to venture there...just that it's very sad and far more complicated than your last statement seems to imply.
Rotifer 07-17-2002, 06:40 PM I think you are both right. The roots of the conflict run deep but the young people use it as an excuse to raise hell.

Give your brain a rest Ned, go chase some Irish birds .. hold out for a nice fringe of course. I'm headed home, have a good one. I think the sierra cosworth was a rally car ATST, we do have a Chevy Sierra in the states .. nasty little thing.
Cheers all! Time to blast home on my trusty Rocky Mountain Hammer Race ... very fun bike.
ned patter 07-17-2002, 09:34 PM You remember that then? i still fancy the irish.
You know i asked the irish girls on holiday to get off with me and she said "na na na na na your not getting off with me well look i want to get back for the breakfast riot cause it's better than sex".
cyansmoker 07-18-2002, 03:20 AM Sorry, I failed to realize that you're a lifesize troll :D
Now, regarding irish chicks and riotting, I guess it's not as bad a sin as sex

O.k., you have to admit Cyan ... Ned has a great sense of humor.
The Laughing Cow 07-18-2002, 11:17 AM The Ford Sierra is the mandatory car you must own to live on a council estate :D (I mean the high-rise ones)
Rotifer 07-18-2002, 12:06 PM What is a council estate?
The Laughing Cow 07-18-2002, 12:25 PM Well I'll leave that to a fellow brit to answer if they stumble along.
Basically low cost, high rise flats quite often which the council supply. Without trying to make them all sound bad - they are renownedly the rougher parts of the country.
Rotifer 07-18-2002, 01:12 PM Ah, in the U.S. we would call it a tenement.
ned patter 07-18-2002, 01:25 PM Do Americans not call it projects?.
ned patter 07-18-2002, 01:26 PM Or ghettos.
Rotifer 07-18-2002, 01:29 PM Yeah, we call them projects as well.
ned patter 07-18-2002, 02:24 PM You don't have get around on that bike of yours jeff.
I used to be a good downhill mountainbiker but stopped it.
Rotifer 07-18-2002, 02:28 PM I've done some downhill as well, I can't afford to do that in addition to cross country. Why did you quite riding?
ned patter 07-18-2002, 02:36 PM I really had no choice to stop it.
My mum had a car but my brother just passed his driving license so she gave it to him and he refused to put a bike on the car..
I did a bit of cross country riding in scotland but mostly up the pentland hills just outside Edinburgh..
There's a good big hill called "arthurs seat" where i live and that's good for downhill but you get chucked off there and there's allot of gangs that go up there and you don't need to be coming down the hill at 30MPH and some little arsehole jumps in front of you just to show off to his freinds..
I mostly do my kite boarding at St Andrews at the weekend..
Rotifer 07-18-2002, 02:45 PM You live in Edinburgh? I friend of mine and I road our bikes across Scotland and ended u in Edinburgh during the festival ... we had no idea it was going on. To make a long story short, we ended up staying for about a week. Kite boarding ... just South of me is one of the top sail and kite boarding spots in the world, Hood River, Oregon. St. Andrews sounds cold as hell!
cyansmoker 07-18-2002, 05:16 PM I also spent a week in Edinburgh during the festival...

Rotifer 07-18-2002, 05:53 PM Ah, but the contrast between a city like Edinburgh and our clean, new little towns is part of the fun.

Next time you come to Edinburgh don't forget to check out westerhailes and niddrie..

I would go over to see the Irish birds right but the last time a done that the captain says i need my parents with me next time and he knows what i look like now so there's not much chance of getting a ride.

Really?, i think Edinburghs complete rubbish and full of junkys and the festival well i'm more funny than the comedians there:D . Oh, well I was on vacation.
I went to Edinburgh, Inverness and the Highlands.
It didn't seem quite as rubbish as Glasgow
The Laughing Cow 07-19-2002, 04:49 AM On the language barrier one thing that really pisses me off is when you install a software package and you get your choice of language
Default option is: English (American)
On the occasional time I manage to find English (British) I want to know why I can't use English, yea English the language spoken in England. I don't speak English (British) I speak English
From now on if a package makes me install in American English again i'm just not gonna install it.
The American dialects are pretty cool but please all software developers give me back my English.
And not all Brits talk like Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones's diary. If you have seen Lock stock & 2 smoking barrels, some of the bond characters or even The 51st state (some films off the top of my head) Most talk more like that than Hugh.
Anyway you know those WASSSUP bud adverts, they were pretty American and they were sooooo funny!
I also love those "real american hero" ones They crack me up every time :D
Rotifer 07-19-2002, 11:28 AM It didn't seem quite as rubbish as Glasgow
Glasgow is dreary.
I heard that Hugh Grant assumed a new manner of speech when he became an actor. I heard somebody once say that he spoke like a "toffer" (spelling?). Sort-of like the BBC the way the BBC has trained its journalists to speak "BBC English" for the last 60 years. I tried to look up "toffer" and came up with this interesting web site:
victoriona slang glossary (http://www.tlucretius.net/Sophie/Castle/victorian_slang.html)
Toffer: A superior whore. (fits, i guess)
Dab: To engage in carnal acts with.
