i have activated 'whoisguard' (via namecheap) on all of my domains and was curious.. do this take effect immediately, or does it take awhile to propagate ?

It takes effect immediately, but could take a couple of days to propagate throughout the internet.

Whois sites like whois.sc use a cache version which updates once a day so you may see a delay. Use http://whois.xreg.co.uk for a nice quick lookup of current info.

on average complete dns/ns/whois can take 24-48 hours

When I activated whois guard on my domains at namecheap it was instant from what I remember.

It may be instant on your end, but domains take time to propagate. For example, if you change the nameservers for your domain, you might be able to access it on the new server within 5-10 minutes, but someone in France might not be able to access the site on the new server for a day or two.

Could take a while to propagate sometimes is what I've seen. I've emailed them about this and they say it could take up to 24 hours. Sometimes it propages instantly after registration.
