you can easily find a resellerclub/directi reseller for nice pricings.
I have registered .info in 1.99 and .org in 2.99 from a resellerclub reseller.

godaddy have a promo of 60 cts info, but have too a extra coupon for 25% in 75 orders, cheap thread of godaddy coupons.

Resellerclub resellers can offer them to you for around the $1.60 mark for that volume, maybe even lower depending on payment method etc. Bit higher if you didn't want to use a reseller type method.
