Are there any suggestions available as where to get a merchant account for a european based merchant aiming for a authorize.net reseller?

Well to have Authorize.net - you will need a United States merchant account. And to get a United States merchant account, you need at least
United States bank account
United States address
United States phone number
I am unaware of a merchant account provider outside the United States that works with Authorize.net, but there might be.

Having said that - to get a United States bank account, the easiest way, would be to walk into a bank, especially Bank of America. This helps to satisfy the YKYC (you know your customer) regulation.

If you cannot do that, see if any of your local banks might be able to help you open a bank account - especially check with some of your local banks. They might have a relationship with some of the banks based in the United States and can help open an account.
