View Full Version : Moniker no refund at all?
waysub 06-07-2007, 03:13 AM well I signed up at moniker had all the trouble getting my domains back from registerfly finally got them back, now there at godaddy now I noticed I can't transfer them for 60 days due to the restriction even though I never transfered them there in the first place so I had 4 moniker transfers, all have failed and now they won't give me my money back via paypal or any method, just says it will remain credit in my account, does that seem right? I mean if I really wanted my money back I should be able to get it some way right?
what does everyone else think on this matter?
I mean if the services failed I do believe I should be able to get a refund and not just the credit in my account..
ashley5 06-07-2007, 05:02 AM hello waysub,
Welcome to WHT.:)
It is absolutely alright.
You can not transfer a domain before completion of 60 days time span.
once you compelete the span you can transfer the domain.
Every webhost will pose this restriction,i hope this thing is clear now.:D
let me know if you require further details on the same.
Jookle 06-07-2007, 06:05 AM That would seem pretty annoying did you read their Terms and Conditions,
maybe somewhere in there it states this.
<If not then I don't see why you should be charged for a service which failed.>EDIT
Should be able to keep your money and not have it held in account credit (because he might change his mind who he transfers the name to)
Edit
A2B2 yeah just did a re-read your right
Hes not been charged hes been given account credit so he has got his money back that he can use against future purchases with them
waysub 06-07-2007, 12:41 PM I've been charged then a credit given, so I mean do you guys think this is wrong? I do..
nameslave 06-07-2007, 01:29 PM Yes, not all registrars REFUND, some only give CREDITS. It's not exactly "wrong", but sure is one of the things you should consider before making a purchase.
waysub 06-07-2007, 02:13 PM But I can't find it stating this anywhere, so should I have to abide by this, or should I just do a chargeback since I've seem to have been had.

REGISTRATION AGREEMENT
3. FEES, PAYMENT AND TERM OF SERVICE
As consideration for the services you have selected, you agree to pay Moniker the applicable service(s) fees set forth on our Web site at the time of your selection unless otherwise contracted. All fees are due immediately and are non-refundable, including the pre-funding of your account.
Dave Zan 06-07-2007, 09:10 PM what does everyone else think on this matter?
I believe problems like these occur due to unrealistic expectations, more so if/when you don't read the fine print and/or ask questions first.
As nameslave said, not all registrars refund outright due to the costs involved (e.g. merchant fees). The next best thing they can do "out of courtesy" is offer credits for future purchases.
If you do chargeback, any domain name you have with them whose first and last name matches that of the card might get suspended and denied access to you. While you can certainly think they're "cheating" you, they're out the chargeback fees (roughly $200 per domain name IIRC) and must protect their business just like any smart businesses do.
While you don't have to "abide" in personal principle, legally you agree to their terms the moment you checked the box beside something like "I've read the registration agreement and agree to its terms." While neither of you can force the other to see how one sees it beyond the legalities, they have every right to do as they please with their resources.
I say these as one who's worked in the domain registrar business for more than 4 years. I know what it's like being on both sides of the fence.
waysub 06-07-2007, 11:35 PM Yeah I don't have any domains there, I think i'll just do a charge back since they don't want to refund it, they will be screwed not me.
Techno 06-08-2007, 01:01 AM Don't do it without telling them. Be nice and NO CAPS. Let them know that you will do a chargeback if they don't refund. A chargeback can take a month to get back on your credit card. A refund will get to you sooner.
waysub 06-08-2007, 11:57 AM Alright good idea.
I agree 100% with what Techno said. Inform them (nicely), that since they are refusing to refund your money, then you have no other choice than to do a chargeback. The advice would be different if you had any domains there.
Instead of griping about the 60 day hold at GoDaddy, I would be grateful that you got your domains back from Registerfly. Many didn't.
nameslave 06-08-2007, 05:28 PM To be frank, I highly DOUBT it would remain *amicable* when the "c" word (chargeback) is even remotely hinted at.
True, nameslave, but then they aren't being very amicable already by refusing to refund his money. He has nothing to lose, since he doesn't have any domains there.

Heh, that actually works in certain situations, especially if worded right and depending on the registrar's thresh hold for such.
