View Full Version : Namecheap Going Down Hill??
WirralNet Matt 06-06-2007, 09:22 PM I have used Namecheap for nigh on 6 years now and enjoyed it right up until 2007, but this year they seem to be having loads of niggling bugs in their control panel.
Some of the bugs I have encountered is totally losing control over nameservers on one of my domains, and domain names disappearing from the control panel altogether. These issues were both fixed by contacting support, but the point is things like this never used to happen and shouldnt be happening now!
Tonight I have found that I can't even check my resgistered nameservers on one of my domain names (I "need" to, so I can update them with new IP addresses for a server migration).
They used to be excellent, but they really do seem to be going downhill. I suppose support will fix it for me in 12 - 24 hours, but this isnt the point.
Come on Namecheap, stop pissing about and start running like you always used to, bug free and overall the best domain registrar I have ever used!
What do you guys think??
:)
This looks awfully familiar.
Control Panel going bad, bugs, issues, domains disappearing...
Something similar to RegisterFly saga? :look:
turbitonoc 06-06-2007, 10:07 PM I`m have any problems when generate SSL Certs and client support (slow, very slow).
spatical 06-07-2007, 02:07 AM I have heard the namecheap is still know for being a good registrar of domain names you plan to use to send high volumes of email. Meaning they have a good reputation and your emails get better delivery success. Has anyone else heard this type of an idea?

Hello Matt,
I haven't heard of many issues with our control panel or with domains dissappearing from accounts. If that was the case these boards would be flooded with complaints as this is the first place most people come when anything breaks down(even before emailing us). To tell you the truth, the last few months have been relatively complaint free around here. :)
If you could email me directly at Richard at Expert Creations dot com I will go through every one of your issues and complaints and address them for you and do my best to find out the problem and insure that they do not re-occur. This offer applies to anyone else here as well.
Anantha,
No, we are not going to go the way of Registerfly. We are always available to help our clients, myself included and we are always looking to improve. Our focus is to provide a stabile and reliable product and will continue to be so.
Jamson 06-07-2007, 04:24 AM I have had NO problems with NameCheap at all, and all WHOISGuard subscriptions work fine as well.
Go Namecheap! *waves Namecheap flag*

Turbitonoc,
This, I will admit, is a bit out of our control as the issues occur directly via the api our SSL provider provides. You're basically on their system when setting things up and they do have issues from time to time. Still they are the best we've found.
You should always address set up issues directly at http://www.rapidssl.com/ssl-certificate-support/ssl-support.htm .

Agreed.
I wouldnt dream of going anywhere else for my domains. :)
WirralNet Matt 06-07-2007, 12:55 PM Don't get me wrong, I am a great fan of Namecheap and use them for all my domains and will continue to.
Just I have had about 3 or 4 problems this year all relating to their CP and I am quite right to be a bit concerned by this I feel, as I have never had a single problem in the past.
Anyway, Jerry is looking into the issue for me atm so hopefully he will sort it, but if I need to I will email you Richard, thanks for the offer of help, its much appreciated.
:)
i've yet to experience any problems. the cp is well laid out and easy to use. <3zz namecheap :)
rainchild 06-08-2007, 04:27 AM Have had problems with godaddy and now moniker. This jogged me to open an account with namecheap and so far so good. What stuck me immediately was the speed compared to the other registrars. Hope it continues.
Why not email support directly?
Posting on a public message board doesn't rid you of the problem any quicker.
And anantha, I'm a bit disappointed, theres a BIG difference between some control panel issues and the whole registerfly deal.
I think it's unfair to try to spread rumors and negative lies(insinuations) about a company that does nothing but make sure their customers are okay.
namecheap has provided excellent service to me so far and I see absolutely no reason to say stuff like this unprovoked.
NameRegion 06-08-2007, 06:42 AM I'm also happy with them. I ordered a RapidSSL certificate and got it on minutes without any problem.
nameslave 06-08-2007, 08:34 AM What stuck me immediately was the speed compared to the other registrars.
What speed?
rainchild 06-08-2007, 09:01 AM Search times. Maybe they were just tring to impress me, being my first time and all. :agree:

Search times? I'm not sure if I understand that. Do you mean query of domain availability?
Adam H 06-08-2007, 09:15 AM Search times. Maybe they were just tring to impress me, being my first time and all. :agree:
I think he does.
What else do you search on namecheap :)

I'm sorry matt but what am I missing here?
liandra 06-08-2007, 03:30 PM I have no problem with namecheap service, and their support been great to me.
I know there is a problem with enom API many times (as stated by richard - enetwork in the other thread), and recently the API to modify DNS (modifyns call) and GetDNS (getdns call) behave differently especially when passing return value.
They used to return DNS from Value 0, e.g : DNS0, DNS1, DNS2, ...
now they start from 1 instead, DNS1, DNS2, DNS3
spatical 06-09-2007, 01:06 PM Talking about NameCheap I ran across this today:
I was buying a bunch of domains from Namecheap and found a coupon for June.
Coupon code:junebugz
Instead of $8.88, domains are $7.98. Privacy protection is included for free.
Same is here: I have had no problems with NameCheap at all (check 5 minutes ago), everything is nice.
WHOISGuard subscriptions work fine as well.
WirralNet Matt 06-09-2007, 10:45 PM I'm sorry matt but what am I missing here? :confused:I was getting at the fact you "seemed" to think I started the thread to gain support for the issue I was having and basically have a good rant about Namecheap. Looking back I worded that last post a bit nasty so I feel I need to apologise for that.
The reason I started this thread wasnt for support of any nature (I had already contact Namecheap support via their website), it was just to raise my personal fears that Namecheap "may" be starting to go down hill after suffering from 3 different bugs in thier control panel already this year. I was asking for other peoples opinions, not looking to gain support.
Hope that clear's it up :)

I had similar problems with the only SSL I ordered through Namecheap. Support was excruciatingly slow (about 2 or 3 days, I think- I still have that support ticket around). In the end, I contacted RapidSSL directly as a last resort and got it sorted out.
If this is a recurring problem with SSL certs, I think it would be good to state this clearly on the SSL area of the site as it detracts from the experience of purchasing SSL through Namecheap.
But, your domain service rocks. Been using it for three years and am waiting for the day you become an accredited ICANN registrar. Is that still very far away?
nobby nutkin 07-08-2007, 05:15 PM Ive never had any problems with Namecheap in fact I've just renewed a whois guard, no bugs in my cp, and no reason to feel the slightest bit concerned.

Amen. Keep those fingers crossed.
linux1213 07-09-2007, 06:50 AM Ive allways used namecheap, and recently have noticed the bugs have come back where you can not update nameservers. Gets kinda annoying
Neosmith 07-19-2007, 05:52 AM I have used Godaddy and can't stand them. That is why I moved my domains over to namecheap a few years ago and have had nothing but excellent service from them. Their CP is easy to use and find things compared to Godaddy.
ericmix 07-24-2007, 12:40 PM Dear,
I'm use Namecheap, have nice panel.
Only one... I suggest to use ticket system for support.
I have request SSL certificate replacement yesterday... the email has arrived or? don't know.
For me Namecheap is :agree: ;)
Drifter13 07-24-2007, 03:46 PM I wish namecheap was able to punch 1and1.com in the face and steal my domains from them. I've been treated like crap from that company, it hurts :'(. Some domains i've already transfered away because i practically HAD to, as DNS propagation time is ridiculous. Namecheap takes about 10 minutes for me compared to a little under 4 days with 1and1. The main problem i've had with 1and1 was their policies and customer service. One day they just removed the "free" privacy protection from every domain i had with no prior notification. When i realized and contacted them about it, this is what they said
I have removed the private whois from your domain name
xxxx.com, you are running this as a business, and the service is generally for use by private individuals.
Our terms and conditions allow us to remove this free service when
required.
As ridiculous as that sounded, I transfered the "offending" domain to namecheap, but when i asked if i could reenable the privacy on my other domains Richard Winslow basically threatened me...
If you enable this on any of your domain names again, we will lock and
get ready to terminate your account.
I ended up having many arguments with them, eventually accusing them of illegally removing the service by violating separate contracts by terminating without reason on the basis of another contract, as each time you enable privacy on a domain you are asked to agree to the privacy contract they have. They didn't budge and I eventually gave up when they sent the same email twice basically saying screw you, we do what we want. That's not even mentioning that their response time for each email was more than 24 hours every time, so as you can tell it was a horrible experience.
@Namecheap, what are your policies on the whoisguard protection? Do you remove it without notification? Under what circumstances do you release the owners information? What are you support ticket times like, as i've never had to email support yet. I just want to have some comfort in knowing i wont be treated like 1and1 did.

Hello,
We will only remove the WhoisGuard from a domain with a legal order or if a domain is an obvious trademark violation; for example if you registered and used it for a domain such as MicrosoftWord.com or something similar.
FreshFroot 07-27-2007, 03:16 AM I used to like Namecheap a lot, but I'm slowly 1 by 1 moving away... Since I've gotten a reseller account and my rates are much much lower than Namecheap's and Whois Guard is ALWAYS free with each domain.
NC just has too many people now, but they still are one of the better places out there.
Drifter13 07-27-2007, 12:53 PM OH MY GOD. This is the last straw, i'm steaming mad and frustrated with this pathetic company. I don't bother them at all, i just wanted a cheap registrar. Boy was that a mistake. I awoke this morning to find the following email from 1and1:

That's the last ****ing straw. Are they crazy? I don't live outside the US and i've never connected from an IP that is. All I can think of that they are basing this on my HOSTING server, as it's based in Amsterdam through youhostme.com. That is absolutely ridiculous. I wish this company would just **** OFF and die, because all i wanted to use them for was a registrar for my domains and to just be LEFT ALONE. Every week it feels like i'm harassed by this company. Please PLEASE anyone thinking of using 1and1..... don't.
