I just bought a digital camera; it's Panasonic PV-SD4090. It's 1.3 megapixel (1280x960 resolution) with 120MB super Disk as its media (I hate Sony Mavica. What can you do with 1.44 MB when you have megapixel camera... especially in MVC-FD95 with 2.1 megapixels?) With that superdisk, I can store about 450 Super Fine picture (1280x960 res) up to about 1500 normal pictures (640x480 res). I can also make a 90x10s (10fps) movie (320x200 res). Anyway, the list price for it is somewhere between US$560-900. I bought it in refurbished condition (with 90 day manufactur warranty) at Panasonic Factory Outlet for $399.95. But that's not it. I also get a $100 mail-in rebate. So I will be paying only about $299.95 for this camera (plus tax). What do you think about this camera? Does this camera worth the $300? Anybody uses this camera?
Originally I was going to buy Sony MVC-CD1000 with mini CDR as its media.... But it's still too expensive for me right now... :(

Please tell me what you think.... :)

cheers,

You just bought it and already you have a double exposure (double post). Better learn how to use that thing. ;) :D

I am looking at the HP PhotoSmart 315xi or the Olympus 460Z...HP is winning though. I am buying one next Thursday...not this coming Thursday, but the Thursday after that.

Fiber,

I use a HP Photosmart C30. It's about 2 years old now and is a 1 megapixel camera and find it pretty good. Here's three pictures for you if you want to see the quality it produces.

The first is outside in full sun
The second is outside in shade (with both forground and background)
The third is inside.

Oh yeah, all three are of my daughter and/or fiance *smile* Call me a proud Daddy I suppose.

Anyway they show an older HP in different conditions. All have been left untouched and unoptimised so you can get a feel for what comes straight out of the camera. FYI they are are set on the camera lowest setting. The two setting above this produce file sizes up to around 2 meg as a .jpg

The camera itself has a slight shift towards blue at times, but not enough you really notice. Newer HP cameras are just going to be better I would say.

I haven't used an Olympus but am looking at one (a three megapixel). All reports are they are a very good camera.

Greg, great quality! Although I love the Canon, I don't think the quality is quite as good as my Olympus that I had, nor even that often. It depends. I think I get more duds with this camera. Poo.

So... HP PhotoSmart 315xi has 1600x1200 res and Olympus 460z has 1280x960 res (same as my panasonic). But they only have 8MB memory... Now, what can you really do with this memory? How many pictures can you take at the highest resolution? Even if you upgrade the memory, it will still cost you some extra money.... My 120MB SuperDisk can take around 450 pictures at 1280x960 (almost 1600 pictures at 640x480), and the disk only costs $5-10 each. That's what I like about it.... Though by using disk media, I have to sacrifice speed.... :( But on the positive side: I only need to carry one LS120 disk in my vacation... :)

Back to my original question: Has anyone used Panasonic PV-SD4090?

cheers,

dektong,

sorry - got carried away when I saw the HP question. I haven't heard much about Panasonic's. That doesn't say they aren't a good camera, but I'd imagine I would have heard more if they were highly rated (in comparisons etc). If I dig up anything in a stack of magazine's I have here I'll let you know...

I have a Sony S70 3.3 megapixel (Cyber-Shot, not a Mavica). It takes beautiful photos. The thing that bugs me about it though is that you can't have the camera powered on and have the lens cap on at the same time.

If only I could afford a Nikon D1...

Me thinks http://www.dpreview.com is called for here :-)

Have fun,
