View Full Version : Need Windows Host (have some requirements)
dvduval 06-03-2007, 11:35 PM I need some help finding a reliable windows host. I haven't hosted on windows in a long time, and I don't know how to choose. These are the specs:
Requirements:
* Windows hosting
* PHP GD library (installed on most hostings)
* Permissions to execute third-party applications (i.e. exe files)
* Permissions to execute Internet Explorer
I've used Jodohost before and they were ok. Also was considering weberz.com, but I don't if either will meet these requirements. Any ideas?
RSNET-John 06-04-2007, 08:27 AM Hello,
I think the biggest issue you'll have with finding a Windows host is the ability to execute applications and Internet Explorer. Have you thought about using a Virtual Private Server? A VPS will give you the ability to configure the permissions however you need to execute any applications you need.
dvduval 06-04-2007, 12:57 PM That sounds like a good idea. Are there any good windows vps available for as little as $30/month?
RSNET-John 06-04-2007, 01:08 PM Have you tried taking a look in the offers section of the forum?
dvduval 06-04-2007, 08:07 PM Ok, I will see what I can find.

What are some good prices you can get for a VPS server? What companies could provide that?

Can you share any experiments please.I can use them nowadays.
maxknight 06-30-2007, 10:04 AM Checkout http://www.windowwebhosting.com. Good support, pricing and uptime.
CyberHostPro 06-30-2007, 09:37 PM it will cost more than $30 month for a windows VPS. Licensing is not so cheap when it comes to windows!

* Permissions to execute Internet Explorer
Not to be a wise guy but any host that's allowing you to do both of these is allowing you to get their server hacked, infected or just doesn't realize the security impaacts. Most hosts aren't going to allow these two things.
You'd be better off with a VPS and I would be VERY CAREFUL what you run on that VPS and lock it down.
Just my 2cents.
Will-AH 07-22-2007, 06:35 PM Definitely agree with the gentleman from AppliedI, that's a security nightmare waiting to happen and any company that allowed you to do that on a shared account does not take the security of their servers seriously.
VPS is most definitely the way to go.
eghservers 07-23-2007, 10:57 PM Agree with applied all so. VPS is the way to go for your needs.
ActivI 07-23-2007, 11:07 PM Isn't there anyway you can remake those exe as ASPX, or something like that? If there is maybe you could try ReliableSite.net share or clustered hosting plans, otherwise go for a VPS ;)
Good luck
Asher S 07-30-2007, 01:50 PM Native code execution? No way will any host who know what they're doing, allow that sort of execution privilage on their boxes. You need something like a VPS for this.
