I didn't think there was, Looks like I'm going to have some words with my current provider! :D ;) cyansmoker 07-17-2002, 04:33 PM Infinite, as a rule of thumb consider this: you should reboot a Unix system when: - you recompile a new kernel - you recompile a driver or, more generally, anything running at such a high privilege level, and it cannot be "hot-plugged" (I mean it's not a module :D ) Those are the only reasons I can think of why you would want to reboot. Other than "my system is totally screwed-up and it will take less time to reboot than to manually reconfigure" of course... I run a number of production servers at work which are rebooted on a semi-monthly basis. It only takes a couple of minutes to take them down and back up - and could make the difference between me going to work randomly at 3am and sleeping. =) bwho 07-19-2002, 02:55 AM it might be required if the tech you had upgrade apache didnt know how to restart it.. and hoped it would start after rebooting ;< in which case, lol :< |
